The black frame is fairly thick, with a silver trim on the inner edges which makes the plaque and signature stand out

Just checked my email and got this from The Western Force ... I cannot help but think the western force franchise is only concerned about money rather then promoting their team!!!

Although the photographs featured in this piece may well have been taken by yourself (as they have not been on a previous occasion), I am presuming you have spoken to Matt Giteau and/or his management team regarding permission to use his signature on this item, which will no doubt bring personal financial gain?



Having previously spoken to you regarding a serious copyright infringement and the use of another player’s signature for financial gain WITHOUT permission, I am sure you don’t need reminding that it is a serious offence?



Can you please confirm whether or not you have been given permission to use Matt Giteau’s signature on this auction item?



I would be happy to refer you to his management team if you have not already done so.



Otherwise, once again, you might find yourself in very embarrassing situation.

1. if it is illegal to sell an autograph of a sporting figure? (if so how come people are easily getting away with it on ebay?)

2. what am i doing wrong!!!!

3. I personally took these to Matt Giteau to be signed, I highly doubt he thought I was going to frame them all for myself, I only want the one! Do you think thats what he would have thought signing them?

4. I didn't find myself in an embarrasing situation before bah!!!!!!!!!! take that!

I was at the training session with you - you told him what you were going to do with the pictures, he then signed them - as far as I can tell that is permission.

Why you (or TWF given that this is the only place you have published you artworks) is being targetted when there are Giteau signed items selling on eBay daily is beyond me. Christian Sprogoe has obvioiusly been in touch with them and is possibly trying to protect his territory?

Given you did have permission, I reckon send her back a message saying that your personal dealings with Matt Giteau are little business of hers

Lonz, I have no idea about the legalities, but I do agree with you completely about the autograph/ebay thing!

And you're right, it wasn't an embarrassing situation before - you didn't realise you couldn't use the pics, they told you that you couldn't, so you didn't. What's embarrassing about that? Annoying maybe, but not embarrassing. They're just being patronising!!!

When you buy memorabilia direct from Rugby WA or elsewhere normally there is a letter of authenticity or a bill of sale documentating the item - this becomes provenance- the stuff you buy off ebay and even the stuff we have in our home (stuff signed by the Force and a Ball we got signed by the Wallibies - I always assumed were worthless comerically - obviously worth heaps to us in fact we love chucking the ball at people to see their face when they look at the signatures !

I honestly thought that was the difference and would love to know the answer - maybe it is because this item is unique and classy !

By virtue of having something signed, are you are then forbidden from selling it forever after without the express permission of the person who signed it?
