Perth Spirit To Debut At Home In Value For Money New National Championship

Children under the age of 15 will be admitted free of charge to Perth Spirit’s home games at Members Equity Stadium when the Australian Rugby Championship kicks off in August.

Rugby fans will also be able to buy general admission entry to four Spirit home games for the price of three.

The new national competition, involving teams from WA, New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria and the ACT, will get underway on Friday 10 August when Perth Spirit play the Western Sydney Rams.

General admission for the home games is $20, meaning the family-friendly ticket prices will see two adults and four kids (under 15) paying a total of just $40 per match to attend.

RugbyWA Chief Executive Peter O’Meara said the ticket pricing for the championship offered real value for money, with fans able to buy a three-game general admission pass for $50 and a four-game (season) general admission pass for $60.

“That’s like ‘buy three and get one free!’” O’Meara said.

“It’s great value for money. You can watch Super 14 players and stars of the future, flying the West Aussie flag in a rectangular stadium against some of the nation’s best,” he said.

“It’s cheaper than going to the movies and there’s more action!”

While Perth Spirit’s 28-man squad has yet to be selected by coach John Mulvihill, it will consist of Emirates Western Force players not picked for Wallabies duties plus members of the RugbyWA Firepower Academy and the cream of the local competition.

The championship will be played under the new rules being trialled in the Sydney and Brisbane Premier competitions and aimed at making the game faster.

Perth Spirit will play four games at home, the first against the Rams followed by the Canberra Vikings on Friday 17 August.

They will then travel to New South Wales for two matches before returning to play the Melbourne Rebels on Saturday 8 September and the East Coast Aces (Gold Coast) on Saturday 15 September.

    Fixtures:

    1. Friday 10 August - 7pm - Perth Spirit v West Sydney Rams - Members Equity Stadium

    Nothing on TicketMaster yet.

As RugbyWA members and Western Force members I'd say we should get first dibs...

Great initiative there. Reasonable prices and FTA tv coverage might just get some new rugby supporters.

So they (Spirit/RugbyWA) will only play club players in the 2nd half of the ARC 'season' or is it a matter of if players make the Spirit squad, they will miss out on the last few rounds + finals of the local comp?

The latter, Coach . Clubs, at least the better ones, will lose 3- 4 of their best players to the ARC two weeks before the finals, and won't get them back for the rest of the finals series. Wonderful. Why do clubs bother -just fold and let the ARU develop its own player base.

I told you so, but you wouldn't listen. Now suffer.

By the way, my grumpy pills are working a treat.

You would fit in well with many who are doubtful over this comp. I am going to wait and see, the names of the club leave a lot to be desired!!
