Six Portugal players who spent the night in jail in Uruguay after celebrating their World Cup qualification will not face any further action back home.

After several media reports concerning the incident, the Portuguese Rugby Federation has issued a statement about what happened in Montevideo:

The incidents in question were not provoked by any player of the national team and some of the players were subjected to various forms of provocation before the local police authorities were called on to intervene.

The Management Committee of the Portuguese Rugby Federation wished to emphasise that it has never tolerated any acts of indiscipline by players representing this country at any level, and it has always been the Committee's intention to impose forceful disciplinary measures in the event that any such acts of indiscipline should be established as having occurred.'
