I read the article in Sundays paper, and apparently not only are the regulars pissed off, but Ireland itself feel it is Racism of some sort...I feel sorry for the crew of JB's but the council is being right tossers in granting a permit for 2000 people because some locals complained...I am betting the pub was there when they moved in...Whingers....

Same can be said about some Subiaco/Leederville types as well, not refering to our esteemed TWF colleagues though, as they are going to be just as gutted about this as the Irish...

The council won't give the pub permission to use the carpark as an overflow for the expected 2000 patrons, instead granting no concessions at all, therefore the maximum allowed inside at any one time is 200 patrons, the other 1800 have to go elsewhere or wait in the sun, or rain to gain entry...Apparently they had no problems doing this in previous years but this year they won't allow it due to local residents complaining about the noise...
It is not that they don't want to open, rather the safety concerns regarding such a large number of people with nowhere to go and the problems associated with it...Sure they would make a killing over the bar, but if someone was injured waiting near the road, or in a alcohol fuelled fight, etc, then they would be liable, so rather than cater for the few they have taken the extremely agonising decision to close its doors instead...The coucil is having another meeting this week to review this decision, so maybe there might be a breakthrough, we have to wait and see...

If they did open with only the additional 200, the place would look empty from the outside - there'd be people climbing walls and jumping fences to get in, then the council/liquor licensing would probably hit them (JB's) up with huge fines for having more than their permitted 200. People who didn't jump fences would probably be agro being slighted by the pub (a perceived slight - it's the council (or perhaps one or two on the council) setting the scene for trouble) and not being allowed entry

If they were to open, residents would be in for a lot more trouble...

How hard do you think it would be for an Irishman to not open his irish pub on St Patricks day?

    still think they should open!

all over the world pubs and clubs have queues for hours to get in every weekend. If every place shuts coz of a mass line it going to become a even more boring city!

Metro's on a sat night and The Cot on a sunday are great examples of huge long queues.

granting a permit for 2000 people
I work at the Witch's Cauldron, and I know when an event such as the Robbie Williams concert is on in Subi, we will do in excess of 900 people for dinner.

When the Robbie Williams concert was on we did 900 people..

We had an income of over $40 000.

    Thats allota money
