I'm an Eels fan too. Tahu and Grothe can stay where they are - can't kick or pass. You need guys like Cross who can hit it up and off-load in the tackle.
I think rugby would be better looking at league backrowers like Sonny Bill and alike - big, strong, fast + ball skills!

Ecka can't kick for sh*t. Not sure about Tahu because he never has to but I've seen Ecka kick and it's tragic lol.

Matt Cooper would be a better option and obviously Mark Gasnier.

Terrible news for Gaz and the Saints! 12 days til the NRL kicks off.

    Gasnier ruled out for season

    By Steve Mascord

March 04, 2007 ST George-Illawarra's NRL campaign was rocked before it began last night, when Mark Gasnier was ruled out for the season with a ruptured pectoral muscle in the Charity Shield.

Gasnier will visit specialists tomorrow and have scans to assess the full extent of the damage.

Switched to five-eighth in one of the most talked about moves of the summer, Gasnier reeled out of a tackle on South Sydney centre Nigel Vagana 17 minutes from the end of the Dragons' win. He was heard cursing repeatedly as he was escorted up the tunnel by medical staff.

"He's out for the season," Dragons coach Nathan Brown said 20 minutes after full-time. "I don't know what they call (the injury). I just go on games lost.

"He was going pretty well, wasn't he? We'll have to wait another year now."

Too distressed to talk, the Australia centre issued a statement which read: "I'm absolutely shattered and I can't believe it. But I'm going to be there for the rest of the team and I'm going to work hard to get back as soon as possible."

Brown said the joint venture club had the resources to cover for the loss of its highest profile player and supporters shouldn't throw in the towel.

Discussing a pre-season injury which is a significant blow to New South Wales and Australia as well as the Dragons, Brown said: "It's a tragedy. He's one of the world's better players so it's big.

"But it's a rough game and we're not going to be the only one to go through it. In the past we've lost key players and gone well.

"We've got Heady (halfback Mathew Head) to come back, which is not until round five. But obviously Heady's a pretty good player."

We've got players around. We've just got to work really hard as a group of blokes and push on. We're still positive our year can be good."

Asked how his team had reacted, Brown said: "They're disappointed but they know we don't lose one player and the last three months are out the window.

"We feel like we've got some good options there who can still help us achieve what we want to achieve.

"No-one has got the depth they once had with Gold Coast coming in and Souths having money now - we're fortunate that we've got Mathew Head to come back and we've got young kids, who, if they get an opportunity, can do really well."

Gasnier left Homebush without making any further comment, his injury set to have a much more profound impact on the club's premiership odds than last night's come-from-behind victory.

The shocking development eclipsed the more routine concerns of Souths unveiling their multi-million-dollar side and the manner in which last night's game was decided - a pass from Souths halfback Joe Williams, which bounced off the shoulder of lock David Fa'alogo and into the arms of Ben Hornby.

The St George Illawarra halfback then raced 70 metres to score, centre Wes Naiqama converting the try for the victory.

While Souths coach Jason Taylor claimed to be unconcerned at the result, his feelings about the wayward Williams pass were summed up when he was asked if he had a halves combination in mind for the premiership opener against Sydney Roosters on March 19.

"At half-time I had one and at full-time I didn't," Taylor said ruefully.

Its a shame considering the Dragons pre-season campaign revolved around Gasnier switching from centres to five-eighth. Have to say i think the Bunnies will do a bit better this year(.........well they'd better im gettin sick of my Dad cursing them!)

they were already tipped to miss the top 8 before this. I hope one of their lower grade halves can step it up!

Makes their decision to let Daniel Holdsworth go even dumber. Noticed too that the Dogs have just upgraded Dan's contract after a memorable first season. So there's no chance of them getting him back.

A tad unfair, they let Holdsworth go last season. He made the right choice to sign somewhere else. He wasn't doing too much at the dragons and he wasn't looking likely to get a run ahead of Barrett etc at that stage. And they weren't to predict the horrific run of injuries to Matt Head. I'd say the decision to let go of Greenshields was worse.

luke_the_pom. Souths have a few big signings (Asotasi, Vagana, Widders, Kidwell and more) and a decent new coach in Jason Taylor so if they can get their sh*t together they could do well. But that's always the big 'if' that goes with the bunnies.

I am an eels man as well, although have lost a bit of interest since superleague screwed the game up...Now i don't follow the game as closely as i used to, i tend to concentrate on Union now and follow the ladder to see how the Eels are performing...

    Breaking news for the Titans.

    http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegrap...001021,00.html

    Laffranchi 'molested woman'

FORMER Wests Tigers forward Anthony Laffranchi has been charged over the sexual assault of a woman at a team-mate's Five Dock unit.

Laffranchi, 26, now with the Gold Coast Titans, voluntarily attended Burwood police station this morning to be interviewed over the alleged sexual assault six months ago.

After several hours of questioning he was then charged with one count of sexual assault on a 26-year-old woman on September 4 last year.

The woman was allegedly attacked after accompanying a group of Wests Tigers players back to Wests player Ryan O’Hara’s William St unit during last year’s “Mad Monday’’ end-of-season celebrations, in which Tigers players celebrated their finals win over the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

There is no suggestion O’Hara was involved in the alleged assault.

The woman had allegedly been at the Sapphire Suite in Kings Cross the previous night, a Sunday, and attended Parramatta police station at 10.40am on the following morning.

It was alleged she woke up in the unit with her clothing having been interfered with, raising her suspicions she had been sexually assaulted and possibly drugged.

The Child Protection and Sex Crimes Squad as well as Burwood police have conducted a long-running investigation, and in December interviewed three South Sydney Rabbitohs players.

While there is no allegation against Rabbitohs’ players or suggestion they were even at O’Hara’s unit when the alleged assault took place, several had been present at the Sapphire Suite on that Sunday night and were asked to describe the alleged victim’s interaction with Tigers players.

Laffranchi was granted conditional bail to face Burwood Local Court on March 27.

There is obviously no excusing sexual assault however...
A League team on "Mad Monday", a single woman accompanying a group of inebriated players back to a unit....
A little bit of an error in judgment by more than one party you might think?
