In a nail biting finish Palmyra overran a tenacious Wests Subiaco to win the cup final by 19 points to 17.
In the plate final Associates beat Rockingham convincingly and the bowl went to Arks over a gallant Curtin
On its way to the final Palmyra trounced Cottesloe 50-0, easily accounted for Wanneroo 37-5 and defeated Nedlands 19-5.
The competition was not without its elements of farce with 2 of Palmyra's top players beeing ruled ineligible to play by an over zealous official because clearances had not been officially notified, with Cottesloe being disqualified from the bowl final for playing an unregistered player, and with Wanneroo storming home in a huff after being advised (wrongly) by officials that they had failed to qualify for the semis after a countback of trys scored.
The Cup final was played out between easily the best two teams in the competition and with 3 minutes left it appeared that Wests would win comfortably, leading 3 trys to 1. They did not count on Palmyra's 7's experience however, and after regaining possession and steadying play Palmyra scored a strong team try which rattled Wests. That try was unconverted, but from the kickoff Palmyra gained possession, the pass went to James Stannard and he sliced through the Wests defence to score under the posts. The game ended with the conversion.
Stannard was named player of the tournament.
