Thumbs up Joondalup Brothers name New Head Coach for Season 2007

Joondalup Brothers RFUC named New Zealand Rugby legend Brian Going as their Head of Coaching for the 2007 season. Brian has just completed a stint as forwards coach with the Bay of Plenty in the Air New Zealand Cup, and has for several seasons coached in the USA with huge success at the Aspen Gentlemen’s Rugby Club.

Kevin Russell - Chairman and President of the Seniors Division - Peter Cottam, today announced the coaching structure of the senior division for the coming season. Brian will be assisted by Leon Bettson, a founder member of the club who returns after gaining valuable coaching experience at premier level. The Colts will again be coached by Steve Swift, assisted by Chris Williams as backs coach and managed by Colin Batchelor.

The President of the Seniors Division reiterated that work never stops and there is still further coaching and managing positions that need to be filled within the Joondalup Brothers. Registration for both senior and junior players will be on the 24th February 2007 at Beaumaris Sport Association - Iluka between 10:00 – 14:00.

The Joondalup Brothers Rugby Union Club is fastest growing club in Western Australia with the largest youth division. They are the current Western Australian Rugby Union Club Champions having won this trophy for the last two seasons. The building of a new $1.75m multi-use sporting facility near the Arena Joondalup announced in 2005 has created a new found enthusiasm in the members which has helped the club grow into a major club in Perth. Russell, who is also the chairman of the Arena Community Sports and Recreation Association, said that “the appointment of Brian Going is another significant milestone in the club’s strategy to establish us as one of the premier clubs in WA.

The club has strived to make connections within the Rugby world and through these avenues several Joondalup Brothers players have gone onto the RugbyWA Academy, the Stormers’ Academy and to Queensland. Two Colts players have recently also been selected to play in the Rugby WA Challenge cup competition where they will play with and against Western Force, Academy and Premier grade players. This competition is considered part of the pathway to a Western Force apprenticeship or state representation.

Sounds like it's all go up the north end, well done and best wishes for the season
The depth of Juniors for Joondalup is really exciting for WA from a layman's point of view!

As a past player past President (old boys) vice President of the Brothers i wish them all the best for the future. At the end of the day it can only help W.A Rugby,as Brian would be the the most senior coach behind Mitch.
