Maybe its just the city end where the announcements are 'too loud' that it effects the crowd atmosphere, because the PA system just dominates everything.

Or maybe my hearing is just so much better then all you old blokes 8)

And i think in future games it might kill us. Anyone else think like this?
even if you didn't have a siren the players can just as easily look up to the scoreboards and see the clock count down.

Prefer the olden days - when the ref was in complete control - and we had injury time - more high dramma in a close game - guess it doesn't fit with the TV schedule - (it was kinda fun when the news was delayed !!!)

So what we need here is for all of the local clubs to have hooters at their grounds. Then we can all appreciate hooters at all matches, not just at Subi...

I'd appreciate hooters at most grounds. I appreciate hooters pretty much everywhere

    OK, OK,

The subi hooter sounds much like an AFL siren because, well, it is an AFL siren.

What does a rugby hooter sound like?

I imagine (but don't know as I don't travel much) that all major rugby venues around the world have a hooter/siren. And I would imagine there are variations on what they sound like.

All it does is tell the ref when time has elapsed. But remember, as has been noted in this thread already, the ref is the sole judge of time. So you will see that play continues until the next stoppage. (A penalty isn't a stoppage, by the way)

We shall have to get used to it, even if/when we move to Member's Equity...

my point was. the fact that there was a hooter, yes you can ask the ref at anytime. but the fact that the siren sounds tells the team that is just infront the advantage because they know they only have to kick the ball into touch. but without the siren you would know its close to time but you could never be sure unless it truely was the last play. eg without the hooter. 20seconds left force down 10-8, they are on the attack. the defending team isnt sure when fulltime is. they know it will be in th enext couple of plays but they dont want to take the risk in turning over the ball then kicking it out finding that there is still a few plays left, giving us another crack. with the hooter. same situation but the defending team will hold onto the ball for an extra few plays because they know the hooter will sound when its fulltime.

Yes and one of my points was that all grounds that have representative rugby played on them have a siren/hooter, so every rep game will have the hooter at half and full time. Everywhere in the world, I'm betting.

    It's the way of things
