480 non-contracted players to vie for 130 places in National Competition

    Story by: ARU

Player interest in the new National Rugby Competition has been overwhelming, with 480 non-contracted players submitting applications with the Australian Rugby Union (ARU) to play in next year's tournament.

More than 300 of these players are from the 22 Premier Rugby clubs in Sydney and Brisbane, while 30 players from overseas clubs have expressed their interest.......

Excellent to see 50 Western Australian based Amateurs (assuming they are all from WA, some may be from the East or overseas...) deciding to have a crack at selection.
If you don't try you'll never know, best of luck to all of you/them, hopefully we will get to see more and more Western talent unearthed through this and the Western Forces Academy program.

Top Field of Coaches in Race for National Comp Positions

As much an opportunity for borderline Pro players to display their wares, a new group of Coaches will be able to add ANC Coach to their Resume` as they progress through their careers.

Top Field of Coaches in Race for National Comp Positions

NSW Rugby has received 29 high class applications for the coaching positions of the three National Competition sides playing out of Central Coast, West Sydney and Sydney City.

The level of experience ranges between Club Rugby in Australia and overseas, international Sevens and Super 12/14.

"The response has been great and the quality impressive," said Fraser Neill, NSW Rugby Chief Executive Officer.

"Just over half of the applicants have nominated a preferred team which means there are plenty of options available for the selection panel."

Applications closed on Monday and the positions are due to be finalised by the end of the month.

"Things are starting to take shape," added Mr Neill.

"In recent weeks the clubs have aligned, large numbers of players have put their names in the hat and soon we’ll have the coaches locked in, a crucial stage for the competition."

Interesting to note that after Sydney Uni leading the charge to be a stand alone team in the new comp only seven ended up nominating for selection.
I wonder if this is a protest or more likely because so many of them are already signed to Super 14 teams anyway?

What do ya reckon of Geoff Stooke's stance about some of the Force players maybe playing for the Vic team?

If I got it right he wants to veto that. I reckon it would be good for some of the Vic "origin" players to be there. Make some room for Stannard, Faluna etc. and maybe Adam Wallace-Harrison to play for the Perth team.

I think in the spirit of why this Comp is being formed that initially we should allow a certain number to go "home", baring in mind that most haven't actually lived there in years. I think it is a twenty eight man squad from memory anyway so not everyone will get a run.
Would love to see Wal come home, if only for ANC! http://thewholeforce.com/showthread.php?t=4899
