    Disaster strikes early

    This from the WF Facebook

UPDATE: Izack Rodda has sustained an injury on his right foot during the pre-season match against the Fijian Drua.
This is the same foot Rodda had surgery on mid last year.
He is currently unavailable for selection with a return to play timeframe developed within the coming days.
We wish Rodda all the best on his road to recovery.

Big blow, but we need to take it on the chin and move forward.

Hopefully Ryan McCaulley is fit enough to start as we need his experience to call the line out.

Williams, Kalapu, Pugh and Anstee other options.

Was keen to see Wiliams at 6 but even in the trial he slotted back to lock for the second half so most likley with McCauley if both fit, otherwise I see it as Kalapu and Williams.

Simon Cron: “People talk about winning and losing all the time and they are critical, but there’s a process to get into and it’s the ability to stay present, do your job and execute skills under pressure.”

I've been thinking about this since I saw the post yesterday.

We've had trial form against the Reds and the Drua, the Reds, in particular, had pretty much their first choice lineout on the pitch for a long time and we towelled them up with Izack, however we were still dominant without him. I think this merely moves our lineout from a virtually unassailable weapon to a strength.

Next point, the Rebels are out of locks, I think Josh Canham is their most experienced lock who is still fit. I think we can handle Rodda being out for a week, but if Round 2 is against the Reds things will start to become more important.
Round 3 we have Pasifika and I honestly have no idea what their set iece is like, but seeing the improvement that the Drua have made I wouldn't be too confident that they're worse than the Rebs or the Reds.
Round 4 is the 'Landers and we need him sorted by then, definitely.

In short, this week would be an excellent precautionary stand down because the areas where he adds most value are well covered by others but every week he will be needed more and more, so get him back quick!
