    RugbyAustralia are a complete embarassment.

Again they are putting roadblocks in place to prevent the Force having a competition with any fellow Aussie sides. What I hate is the total disregard for WA. They still dont have a "plan" for WA, Cheika doesnt have a "plan" for the Wallabies, RA are just totally out of ideas and as a consequence the whole ship is sinking with only a beacon of light coming from the West and RugbyAustralia dont even want to be apart of it. They have become a governing body completly frozen in fear with no ability to move the game forwards.

So what is Rugby Australias plan for Western Australia, we are still waiting.. Raelene has officially burned all her bridges with me in the West, I have no respect for her or her ability to manage the game, she has confirmed herself as a Clyne puppet once and for all. No plan, just roadblock after roadblock after they slashed and burned WA, and the endless money pit being spent on Melbourne still to this day makes my blood boil. I hope Twiggy goes nuclear!

The reappearance of a Shute Shield team in Western Sydney, which has been created by the simple expedient of renaming the Parramatta Two Blues as the Western Sydney Two Blues, has probably put paid to another high-profile team in Western Sydney in the immediate future. The NSWRU/SRU see Western Sydney as their territory, and they will not let another rugby union entity encroach on that territory - leastways not without a serious and bloody fight.

Consider that other things could happen with the SS comp in the next couple of years, and especially after 2020.
For example, if West Harbour goes under (and its foot-print gets added to the Western Sydney Two Blues foot-print), then there will be 10 SS teams, which could make an opening for one or two QLD teams to come into the SS competition, and possibly even a team from the ACT and/or VIC. If Australian participation in Super Rugby undergoes a major change post 2020, then where could the SS competition stand in the hierarchy of Australian rugby union competitions?

So, as far as the ARU/RA is concerned, the "Western Sydney" problem has been solved by the NSWRU/SRU and the threatened "invasion" of the Sydney Heartland by WSR repelled.

The ARU/RA's preferred solution to the on-going fall-out from the killing of the Western Force Super Rugby team in late 2017 has not changed. The ARU/RA would still prefer that Andrew Forrest, Minderoo and WA Rugby simply disappeared off the face of the Earth, ideally after the ARU/RA has got its hands on the money which Minderoo was going to spend on WSR.

The game will go broke unless something is done. Twiggy align yourself with Papworth, Dwyer and Jones to over throw this mob.
Yup definitely!! Papworth & co (providing they’re honest about their intent, going by what Hansie says) alignment could give enough pressure to roll over the RA.
“Unifying the game.......new governance model”. Codswallop! They cut Western Sydney themselves FFS! And they wouldn’t know a governance model if they fell over one, let alone make one! There also seems discrepency in opinions between Hore’s version & Castle’s version - one lot’s saying never agreed & the other half making a press announcement that it is..doesn’t sound like left & right hand talk much.....surprising. They’re stalling plain & simple to try to scupper plans & give themselves some time to think of a plan to snaffle money. Here’s an idea - what about recoup the monies spent on Rabble.

    Angry

Andrew Hore, CEO of NSW Rugby is another KIWI dictating how fast or slow Rugby will die in Australia. With Raelene Castle as the CEO of RA and Andrew Hore as the CEO of NSW Rugby......we, as a nation, have no hope.

So looks like teams will then be
    1. Force
    2. PWK
    3. Other Japanese T14 team
    4. HK
    5. Singapore
    6. Fiji
Hodgo and Twiggy did say a couple of months that they had 12-15 teams wanting to be part of WSR, including 4 Japanese teams.
So if Western Sydney and the Kiwi teams have been blocked until 2021, well the WSR will move on without them as was the original idea.
WSR therefore still have 10-13 teams to choose from without those 2.

    Good decision.

Alan Jones' radio show is going to be interesting if he brings this up. Probably too late for his article.

Mindaroo need to come out today and put a lid on what the East has said this morning. If they don't have a definite answer they at least need to reaffirm that WSR is still going ahead and will be fully funded 2019 and 2020. Silence is not the answer, it just loads more bullets for all the other RA ticket holding journalists.

Love the comment about “you can’t put a professional team and build it on sand.” Isn’t that exactly what the ARU did when they strong-armed the Rebels into Stupor Rugby?

Exactly what they did Alison. The players weren't there due to pathway cutting so they went down the route of allocating them ten imports. Still don't know to this day how that was financed as the RA was as broke as they are now.

So they've said No to Western Sydney and New Zealand.

Did they actually say Yes to WSR having a team in WA? Nothing in Georgina Robinson's article implicitly says that they agree to WSR going ahead, so it's just more obfuscation and delay; RA's watchwords!

ETA: Robinson's amended article (below, cheers Bakkies) is a bit more positive, but still doesn't implicitly say that RA have agreed to the WSR.

Twiggy's team remain optimistic on World Series Rugby timeline

Mining magnate turned rugby philanthropist Andrew ‘Twiggy’ Forrest remains hopeful teams from western Sydney and New Zealand will join World Series Rugby despite the national unions from those countries ruling out such a step until at least 2020.

Forrest’s vision for an eight-team rebel competition with a $1 million prize purse was delivered a significant setback last month when Rugby Australia and their counterparts over the ditch indicated they would not support his plan to get a team each in western Sydney and New Zealand in time for the 2019 season kick-off in March.

With the new Super Rugby agreement to start in 2021 and the global calendar on a similar time frame, both Rugby Australia (RA) and NSW Rugby want more time to work out how a second professional team playing in a different competition would work in the existing landscape.

It means that apart from the Western Force, World Series Rugby will not have any Australian or New Zealand teams until 2020 at the very earliest.

But World Series organisers told Fairfax Media they believed a 2020 timeline was feasible and would welcome the new entrants at any point.

“(Forrest's company) Minderoo is in ongoing discussions with both Rugby Australia and Rugby NSW in relation to the establishment of a WSR team in Western Sydney,” a spokeswoman said.

“RA and NSWRU have discussed with Minderoo the possibility of establishing the Western Sydney team in 2020 instead of 2019 to allow them to do what they believe is the required planning to ensure the team is successful and integrates into the NSW rugby system.

“Minderoo continues to work with RA and NSWRU to enable the establishment of the Western Sydney team at the most appropriate time.

"We would welcome a team into the competition as early as the 2019 season (which kicks off in March 2019) if its establishment was able to occur faster – but whether that happens is up to RA and NSWRU, in discussion with the parties who are ready and willing to support such a team in that timeframe.”

NSW Rugby Union boss Andrew Hore said on Thursday that NSW supported the positions of RA and NZR, saying it was a case of not "never", just "not now", as the NSWRU itself fights to breathe life into the huge but under-utilised region.

"There won't be a World Series team there next year. As we know there's a lot of work to be done in and around western Sydney and nobody's saying no to that but making sure it's done in an effective way," he said.

"Our whole focus at the moment has been on unifying the game so anything we do has to be tied to our new governance model and have the full support of the rugby community, otherwise you just end up with another fraction.

"That's still open for discussion but I think everyone's in agreement it could all be too quick. You've got 2020 on the horizon and the renegotiation of where rugby will be after that."

It is a major setback for Forrest and the World Series team, but is unlikely to daunt the determined magnate.

Hore hinted that Forrest had already heard the news from RA boss Raelene Castle, who had a working dinner with the billionaire and her NZR counterpart, Steve Tew, last month.

"I think Raelene's alluded to that and it seems that both her and Steve Tew have had some good meetings, which is good, and we had one meeting with his representative," Hore said.

"I think everyone's under agreement that you can't put a professional team and build it on sand, it just doesn't work. So all of the other variables that make a team like that sustainable and potentially, whether it will go ahead at all, needs further discussion.

“To try to put a professional team in by next March - nobody's got the resource probably outside Twiggy's group at this stage. Because at the end of the day we've got to look after 100,000 rugby players in our own state.

"With everything else going on it's a lot of work."

To be honest, there wasn't much of a proper rugby pathway in WA before the Force came about - hence havign to recruit our team from east coast youth players and journeymen. However, we did have a large ground-swell of support (was it 25,000 at Subi Oval spelling out 'Perth'?)
