We all know that the ARU strong-armed the entry of Melbourne into SuperRugby in 2010, bankrolled the Melbourne team to the tune of well over $30million over the next 7 years and sent WA to the gallows to ensure Melbourne stayed in Super Rugby. And all for what? Can only have been pure self interest on the part of the henchmen as it’s clearly not because rugby is a growth sport in Victoria. Seems to be about as popular as tiddlywinks.
Had a mate go to the game with his adult son. They said that there was at least one other Force supporter at the game (3) and the crowd was no more than 200. Everyone was kept to one section which was in front of the camera's. At least it was free. All the MRRU supporter were complaining about having to go to Geelong.

moving the Melbourne games around to Vic country sounds good in theory, but when you only get 200 people, it does not make sense. Move it around Melbourne to the suburban rugby clubs maybe. Of the 197 (200-3) Melbourne supporters, you would imagine they were mostly family and friends of the players who drove down to Geelong.

Of course make exceptions for injury cover etc.

Im sure if DHP came down to watch he would be a hit with the crowd and kidscoming to see a Western Aussie playing for the Wallabies.

Semi watched the game this morning glad to see Dane at fullback and land 2 tries.
Agree with both of these. Seeing DHP back would be great, and he's in good form, but the team don't appear to need him.

However, if DHP was standing on the hill with the punters, maybe even doing a pre/post-match session with kids on playing full-back, I think that would be awesome.

I always find it frustrating that the Western Force play so badly against any Melbourne team.
In SR I think our record was 3 wins from 11 games.

However, I think it's hard to make a comparison as the two Melb teams are so different.

We played badly against the Rebs in Perth.
That team had 7 ex WF (8 if you count Nathan).
Had a mix of good SR players and some fringe Melb Club players.
It was disappointing after the Fiji Warriors game.
But we hadn't been together for long.

The Rising squad had 15 players with SR experience.
It had a lot of young players just giving it a crack.
I think the Rebels played very well.
They worked hard at the breakdown and were quite disruptive to our patterns.
We weren't getting quality ball out to our Backs.
Fantastic that the boys found ways to win.

I like Jordan Way as a referee.
He did a good job against the Fiji Warriors as well.

I think the current Western Force team has come a long way in <6 months and to be the leading Aussie team in the NRC says a lot.

They should have had the match at Geelong Rugby Club. The made a big mistake by not having any of these games in Melbourne a great way to alienate supporters.

No to mention how much it must have cost to hire Kardinya Park for this match, endless $$$ in Melbourne for rugby, shame it's not the same for supporters of rugby in Melbourne.

I questioned the rental costs on Green and Gold Monday News. Missing Link threw the toys out of the cot accusing me of spreading propaganda.

Why wouldn't he just back it up with some facts of his own? It seems pretty obvious that 150-200 people, who "probably" got in for free is not going cover ground hire costs.

Doesn't suit his pro MRRU narrative.

Maybe it was part of the funding agreement between the ARU and Vic Govt that some games have to be outside of the Melbourne CBD in order to spread the largesse. Who knows.

    Who knows indeed.
    1. Played at Geelong, so a substantial journey to get there from Melbourne, especially for those rugby enthusiasts who live to the east of the Melbourne CBD.
    2. At Kardinia Park, which is an elongated AFL ground (170m x 115m) with a capacity of 34,000 to 36,000, nearly double that of nib.
    3. Admission was free.
    4. Rising still wearing jerseys with LPIG logos.
    5. Final attendance of 200, 400, 600, ...., what does it matter. It's all sad, and not good for the game of rugby union.

Here I was thinking this would be the biggest rugby game in Victoria this year! I mean, 36000 capacity!

Its starting to look like time is running out for this charade in Victoria. More a matter of when than if.
