It is an interesting problem. My understanding was that it would be a commission-style of administration, so the CEO is realistically going to be a figurehead and politician. Almost don't want it to be an Australian, to highlight that this is intended to be an international and largely Asian-Pacific competition. They need genuine respect both inside and outside rugby. And they need to be bought into the strategy and ethos of an interlinked competition and wider development structure. Can't say a lot of names spring instantly to mind...

Julie Bishop. If they’re too dumb to select the best PM for the country, we can cetainly have the best CEO.

Maybe the teams who have been successful already know and are preparing. Forrest has been handling the press releases like a businessman - letting people know when a deal is finalized - rather than an incompetent sports body - letting people know what their preferred outcome is prior to negotiations starting.

Out going Crusaders CEO Hamish Riach would be a good candidate with an in depth knowledge of how NZ rugby operates. Mark Sinderberry would be a good candidate too. A lot of what he dealt with was from the restrictions the ARU held over RugbyWA. Sinderberry has a good track record of setting up development programs, Saracens academy, Force academy and was in charge of the Brumbies during theyre early 2000s success. Brett Gosper is a Victorian so that would rule him out for me.

    Yes, she's highly qualified.

Must know a hell of a lot about Rugby.

After all, she's been to more free corporate box events at Nib stadium than Jeff Stooke.

Rugby background or not I think a sports background is what is important.

Someone in the ilk of the current one; he has revolutionised the exposure of the team in media and around town, invigorated the matchday experience, brought in plenty of sponsors to fund it. Not sure anybody in SANZAAR is capable of that. If there was an Australian administrator who can innovate and get the game out further into the mainstream psyche, it would be someone from AFL; someone who is able to get that game a four-team professional foothold in Queensland and New South Wales, should be able do the same for rugby outside of those areas. Otherwise, look outside the failed SANZAAR block, who took the most magnificent rugby competition ever, and turned it into a shitfest no-one understands, with cultureless teams no-one cares about.
