    Quality Sports Grounds for Rugby

After watching NRC game Force vs Queensland City

I was wondering from you knowledgeable local rugby fans how does our grounds rate in comparison to what we saw on tv today. I know it’s subjective but here is how I saw today’s ground from what I saw on tv.

Criteria. QLD local ground. Rating (10)
    1. Playing field Cow paddock 3
    2. Facilities (players) Basic local Unknown but will score 5 guessing average.
    3. Facilities (spectators). Catered Unknown as well but seemed to have a lot of food trucks 7
    4. Space (spectators). Crowd 7 (seemed reasonable)

    Purely an exercise in interest!

Remember we are speaking of NRC standard!

Looking forward to see your ratings.

There aren't many quality grounds in Sydney. People rave about TG Milner but the pitch is very dry you could play Cricket on it.

I can only talk about Rugby Playing fields in Sydney and Katherine (Northern Territory - and that was the mid 90's)

First up - most fields are owned by local councils. and are prepared, cared for by the council and are rented out. So some fields are flogged to death by Rugby, Touch, TAG, Soccer etc etc etc.

The majority of Rugby Clubs in Sydney have to rent the grounds from the local councils - this is anything up to $50k per year. That figure is a rumor so please dont quote me on that.

TG Milner field was where my Club played 2 Grand Finals 3 weeks ago was an absolute dustbowl. But, to be fair. NSW is in the middle of a drought.

Also - should be noted that the Eastwood Club sold TG Milner field recently - for a Squillion dollars.

    Hope this helps.

Part 2 to come this afternoon.....

    1. Playing field I thought it was pretty decent 7
    2. Facilities (players) Never seen them Unknown but will score 5 guessing average.
    3. Facilities (spectators). Catered Has a bar and some food vendors, seems to be arranged by clubs, compared to a large number of food trucks would be poor 5?
    4. Space (spectators). Crowd 7 (Never short of space on the hill?)

Just interested on how grounds fair around local land? Would UWA ground be the number 1 or are there better grounds in WA for rugby?

As a spectator, I really like UWA as the hill gives people a great view. I’m not sure I’d rate it as the number 1 ground though.

I used to love Rugby Union Park at Perry Lakes. Change rooms were poor but sitting on the hill opposite in the Winter sun with a beer in hand..memories!

I think facilities at lark Hill would shit on McGillivray, wouldn't feel qualified to compare the playing surfaces though

The Ground on the weekend @ Norths was McGilvary park for the Fans, a big hill for all to sit and watch, the Green tinge what you saw on the TV had to be photo shopped as it was like an Indian cricket pitch, both sand and like concrete. I'm sure there would be a few bruised knees let alone the bones ...

Bond University where they will play the Qld country in 3 weeks goes alright it was where the Force played the Rebels as a trial game before the 9s back in 2016 ?? That is good for Fans and Players a like and should be as green as astroturf and as soft as a kids sand pit as they have a decent water plant onsite.

WA land, Larkhill is good for all reasons but with a few million put into the creation and upkeep any club ground would be in the same condition. Mandurah Pirates/Coastal is in the same boat. Cant say too much more about Rugby grounds but can report on League grounds if you want (I know I should wash my mouth out) :-)
