It’s all the same diatribe from last year pulled up with so many holes in it, closely followed by TWAS pathetic bleat. Keep it up-doesn’t look like he’s getting much positive response LOL!

I disagree with some of what he has said, but I agree with the overall point. There are at least two locations over East that would make far more sense for a WSR team, but there has been no mention of anything like that or even preparations for same in future. Yet they are proposing a full team for a location with next to no underlying support structure and, crucially, no control over what there is. WA has the Pindan and RWA behind it, every other mooted location has both a local comp and the support of the administrative body, and WS has what...? Frankly it is reminiscent of an ARU move...drop a team on a location, thinking that will somehow solve something.

Which is why there must be something else going on. No-one could possibly be blind to how provocative a move it is, especially before the competition has even been sanctioned. There are lots of things that could have been done for and with Western Sydney once the competition was running, but instead they went straight nuclear. There has to be a reason, and it is not surprising that people are speculating as to what.

I would imagine that the western Sydney side will be set up constitutionally like the Brumbies so it can never be merged, relocated or axed. I would believe that the clubs in the relevant districts will have some input and/or voting power so they can't get destroyed again. Plus it will be run and financed professionally. Kids will have a pathway to go in to which they have never had in the west. They have had to move or go to league. The Samoa and Tongan input is probably to get support from the IRB as we have seen with the RLWC there are far too many Melanesian and Polynesian boys that have family backgrounds in Rugby through their heritage are playing League.

Geoff is just pandering to the obstructionist the RA like Drew Mitchell he doesn't want to lose the keys to the inner sanctum when he is only getting started and still has his head in the sand over the dying comp that is Super Rugby. Properly funded Force and western Sydney sides won't cost the RA and Twiggy won't set them up like the basketcase Rebels were by John O'Neill and Harold Mitchell so they won't be relying on tens of millions from the RA.

The RA can also stick to their 'deals' to prop up the Rebels.

Bakkies, I have read through all that WSR debate on ROAR. But I think the biggest misconception to me from both Twiggy' distractors and his supporters, that they think Twiggy is in this Force/WSR thing to make money.
I believe he has his philanthropist hat on. Like when he donates hundreds of millions to other causes he also passionately supports. He may put the businessman hat on when he is negotiating or trying to ensure the WSR becomes a success.
He has other easier ways of making real money than through setting up the WSR.
He has just spent a bucket of money getting the Force back up and running. And I have heard he publicly say twice now that he is going to give the Force back to the fans.

There is more than just a couple of games and a few beers when the Stockman Rugby Union, who play Western Force on Saturday night at Lark Hill sporting complex, go on tour.

Their programme provides opportunities for aspiring grassroots talent but also raises awareness about mental health.

The Stockman club started life in Longreach in Queensland in 2013 and brings together players from the bush where life can be isolated and lonely.


Former Wallabies prop Nic Henderson, who spent 2010 at the Force, is coaching the team that beat the WA under-19 side on Monday.

He said addressing health issues created a bond between players.

“They boys have been picked on rugby ability but also what they are like as blokes, the sort of people they are,” Henderson said.

“Rugby is the avenue to pull the boys together, the vehicle to deliver discussions around mental health.

“We have held three workshops while on tour and that is very important, to ensure the guys are comfortable.

“It’s a really unique bond and all the players have been saying how important it has been.

“I have never done something like this before and I’ve been really impressed.

“It’s a really good environment to be part of coming together, not just for rugby, but gaining a level of trust in each other.

“The boys fund it, they pay to be here, and when you invest in it you respect the opportunity. It’s not given to you.”

The Force have included fringe World Series Rugby and local players in their squad but Henderson said it will still be a step up for most of his players.

“There’s no escaping the fact that it will be a huge jump” he said.

“The reality is we’ll be playing against a team that has been training together for some time and we’ve been together for a week,” he said.

“It will be a huge step up in terms of physicality, speed, the breakdown, the tackle and the set piece but it’s a huge opportunity to play at a level above where they have come from.”

WANDERERS breakaway Marcus Christensen will hop on a plane three hours after playing against the Western Force in Perth on Saturday night to ensure he is on deck for the Two Blues’ sudden-death showdown against Nelson Bay at No,2 Sportsground on Sunday.

Christensen will pack down at lock for the Australian Stockman against the former Super rugby franchise.


It will be his second game in a five days after helping the invitational team to a 31-19 win over the Force under-19s on Monday night. University hooker Dane Le Rougetel is on the bench for the Stockman.

Christensen’s plane arrives in Sydney early Sunday morning.

“He is hoping to get enough rest in transit,” Wanderers coach Darren Young said. “He asked us about it when the invitation was offered to him. It was a no-brainer for us. It is a massive opportunity for him.”

Christensen will move from blindside breakaway to No.8 in place of Ben Ham who is suspended after picking up his third yellow card of the season against Hamilton.

“This has been Marcus’ best season,” Young said. “We challenged him this year and he has evolved as a player and leader.”

The Gropers accounted for Wanderers 18-6 in their last encounter at No.2 Sportsground in round 14 and are fresh from the bye in the final round. It was the only game this season in which the Two Blues have not crossed for a try.

“We have got the players to attack, but we have been basing our game on what we can do defensively to shut down key players,” hooker Dan Collins said. “We basically get up in the face of guys. Realistically a couple of years ago, the attackers would not have batted an eyelid at who was coming at them.”

The result at No.2 was in stark contrast to their first meeting at Strong Oval, which the Two Blues were convincing winners 44-5.

“They were just too good,” Collins said. “We couldn’t string a couple of blokes together in D and they found every hole. They are the type of team who keeps probing away until they find that hole. Our defence will be key. If we can keep the same as the last few weeks, we are in with a good chance.”
