    Peter Samu - Wallaby Bolter?

    https://thewest.com.au/sport/rugby-u...r-ng-s-1863239

So the Brumbies sign Peter Samu for next season yesterday, and he's already being talked about for the Ireland series?

He's still an 'overseas-based' player (albeit only in Christchurch) but he hasn't any Wallaby caps. Doesn't this break the Giteau Rule, or has that just been dropped and the R(EC)A are just making it up as they go?

The Gits Rule has two parts

    1. 60+ Test Caps and playing overseas
    2. Eligible for Wallabies from Citizenship perspective and signed to Australian Super Team for next season. I think Kane Douglas got back for RWC 2015 on that one.

Perhaps Scotty Robinson will feel guilty about telling us we needed to build more depth in oz while having two aussies in his Crusaders team earlier in the year, and the NZRU will allow him to play for Wallabies this year.

Or now a signed Force player as well?

It does annoy me a little that not one pundit (not that I have seen) has even wildly speculated on a single Force player being a bolter at least as squad membee.
e.g. Longbottom, who was speculated as a bolter before he went overseas. He looked good in scrums so far for the Force.

It will be interesting to see how the Force (no Wallabies apparently ) go against the Rebels (minus their Wallabies.)

Pete Samu might be a good player (don't know, I don't really follow SUperficial Rugby anymore) I find it interesting though, that there were good backrowers running around aplenty in the Force team of 2006 to 2017, and examples that could be cited by most other teams in Oz, but the ARU's insistence of playing worthless mungs like Cliff Palu and Michael Hooper at the expense of worthwhile players like Benny Mac, David Pocock and Matt Hodgson has caused most of them to be lost to the game (at least in this country)

As a result of biased selection policies over several successive Wallaby coaching regimes, there are certain positions that have built virtually no depth in the current game.

Take Flyhalf for example. Fox sports was doing a puff piece on who would be named i n the Wallabies squad, so being sadistic, and feeling like I was about to see carnage and mayhem, I thought I'd give it a read.

most positions had exactly the same players mentioned by the pundits, they both then proceeded to justify their selections as if there was some sort of point. Flyhalf was by far the most notable, with neither party thinking there was anybody other than Bernard Foley capable of steering the Wallabies backline around the park! They were suggesting that The Queensland bloke (Stewart isn't it?) be introduced to the squad as succession management for when Foley retires!!!!!

We apparently have no props without Slipper, No Fullbacks except Folau, Apparently no number 6s because Samu is being Hijacked from the Crusaders, let's face it, no real backrowers to cover the Pooper. Precious little at 9 behind Genia and Ruru (or Phipps) It really sounds (hardly suprising) that there is virtually no depth in Australian rugby at all. there appears, in the mind of the broadcaster, only to be 15 men in the country capable of playing Rugby Union at an International level.</rant>

With access to Eurosport, I spend more time watching Top14 rugby ... when the Aviva Prem isn't on .. than I ever do SuperficialRugby.

Watched a terrific game of Lyon v Toulon, where Mike Davies ran the through and Liam Gill is so influential, they simply don't sub him. Against a very powerful Montpelier side coached by Vern Cotter and with a rejuvenated Picamoles after his spell at Northampton, Lyon were holding their own until a technical and almost harsh yellow saw Gill rest up for 10. Montpelier then pulled away with some serious energy at the breakdown to get quick ball out ... in Liam Gill's absence.

Pain's me to think Gilly misses out on Intl honours ... just hope he qualifies through residency for France some time soon.

    credit to GIGS for quote.

Samu isn't the answer to our backrow problems. He is 185cm and just a touch over 100kgs. Now height and weight aren't everything but we need a jumping runner. We need 195cm+ and 110kgs+. Convert a lock. Philip or Tui.

Tom Cusack. Same height as O'Mahony mobile around the park and can fetch. If you are going to have Hooper stand out in the centres you got to have the blindside going for each breakdown.

Normally I'd 100% agree, but I can't speak much for how RHP is playing. Has he been injured or out of form/favour?

This is a direct consequence of both axing the Force and shrinking to greatness. So far the loudly trumpeted ...we will compete better with NZ teams with 4 .... has been a crock of shit . Young players who had regular1st team places at the Force have been denied Super Rugby exposure . Alex Newsome James Verity-Amm Ryan Louwrens Ross Haylett-Petty are a few that spring to mind ..... these players were the future playing great rugby week in week out with confidence and flair.... you cannot get confidence and improve if you don’t play.....simple. What’s RA doing ? Squat . Ms Castle dealing with the biggest challenge of her career/ life ....a players religious beliefs ... shows what dire staits the code is in ....SAD . I feel for those youngsters side lined by this crowd
