    Asleep at the wheel, ARU/RA?

    Went to Origin 1 tonight.

Attendance at the MCG in excess of 87,000, on a weekday evening.

Waratahs vs Reds last Saturday, attendance at Lang Park just under 14,500.

    Wake up, ARU/RA.

yet rugby league average attendance in australia this season is 15,821.
i don't know what it all means.
where did 71,179 JCL's come from?

just noticed that the storms last 3 games at aami were 13k, 25k & 12k, guess which game was against a kiwi side.
so that means that roughly 12000 kiwis turn up for a game of league?

    union games at aami were 8.3k, 16.1k, 5.5k, 11.3k & 7.8k (16.1k v canes, 11.3 v crusaders)
so the 3 non-kiwi games averaged 7.2k, so roughly 8900 cane fans and 4100 crusaders fans attended?
also, if i enter 58,008 on my calculator and turn it upside down.......................

    A couple of thoughts:
    1. Raelene made much of her NRL experience coming to RA, however, 87,000 fans at the G to watch a state of origin rugby league match with neither team representing our state is incredible. Lots of people from my work going and they've never watched a rugby game of any sort before. Lots of advertising in town and excitement among AFL followers.
    2. Wallabies v Ireland to play in Melbourne at AAMI max capacity 30,000 - it might be a sell out - isn't yet, but that is appalling in comparison. Raelene has made no value add in her six months asleep at the wheel.
    3. Interesting that AFL boss MCLachlan is facing deceptive and misleading charges re his handindling of the Essendon saga - any thoughts on that?

Nothing deceptive or misleading about Essendon "saga"... it was only a "supplements program" not full blown doping with needles, growth hormones, pigs blood etc similar to Lance.

You know I constantly read that Australians want more derbies in the media. Personally I always enjoyed the Kiwi games more.

Has an interesting few days in Sydney catching up with Rugby contacts. Tahs and Super Rugby are ho hum... no interest. Common note is that Shute shield and Subbies Rugby is where it is all at. Total lack of trust in Raelene, hoping Phil Waugh may add value on the board.

Interesting though is that all had watched Force vs Fiji and Tonga and curious on RWS.

They say, there is no direction, no vision, no pathway, no targets, no ideas, no incentives coming out of RA. Would like to see pro active work going on.

The Heartland want more derbies, because they actually have a shot at winning one.

I always preferred watching the Force play against other Aussie teams.

I prefer games in a similar (i.e. convenient) timezone - which obviously includes derbies.

I preferred playing teams from other countries rather than the Aus derbies

On Wednesday evening, a group of PIs (including Kiwis) from the Western Suburbs was in the row behind us on Level 4 of the G, cheering on NSW.
    I got talking to them.

Me: "Anyway, this is Rugby League. What are you doing at a league match?"
Eldest of the group: "We got kicked out of union. A local league team in the West wants us to play with them. They got us cut price tickets [to Origin I]."
Me: "Did you play for Penrith Emus?"
    Eldest: "Yeah bro."
Me: "Why don't you talk to one of the other union clubs around Penrith?"
    Eldest: "Nah. F*ck 'em."

Asleep at the wheel = scheduling a rugby test at the same time as the Socceroos 1st game of the world cup.....way to ensure they capture maximum audience

TBH, I haven't been watching the Wobblies this year. But been so engrossed in the WC match that I had not even thought about the Wobs v Ireland.

    PS Jedinak is king!!

I toggled between the two games but with the Irish being up for it, they held my attention most. Well done Ireland.

    Same

It looks like the ground was pretty full as well, well done Melbourne, pretty much filling a 25000 seat stadium!
