Alcohol. Think Again Western Force Women Named for Super W

Alcohol. Think Again Western Force Super W Head Coach Sebastian Delport has named a 30-strong squad for the inaugural Super W competition set to kick off in early March.

The final squad has been decided following a month of intensive training before a trial match with Delport and his coaching team confident of taking the fight up to their east coast counterparts in the competition’s maiden season.

The Force squad features seven Wallaroos including experienced lock Rebecca Clough, talented playmaker Trileen Pomare, powerful backrower Vesinia Taufa, Kendra Fell, Madeline Putz, Huia Turoa and former Queensland prop Alex Bannon.

Trileen Pomare is one of seven Wallaroos in the Force Super W squad.

Clough, Pomare and Turoa were members of the Wallaroos squad for last year’s Women’s World Cup in Ireland and will bring invaluable knowledge and leadership to a side that boasts a strong mix of youth and experience.

One of the talented youngsters selected in the squad is 17-year-old sevens sensation Courtney Hodder. The Aranmore Catholic College speedster was named Player of the Tournament at the National Senior Sevens Championships in 2017 before going on to represent the Australian Schools Sevens.

Sevens young gun Courtney Hodder will look to show her talent in the XVs game.

Six local clubs are represented in the state squad with 2017 Premiers Cottesloe holding the largest representation with nine players selected, Palmyra and Wanneroo also have a strong presence with eight and six players respectively.

Head Coach Sebastian Delport is thrilled with the calibre of players in the squad and believes the team will play an attacking and entertaining brand of rugby.

“We have a really strong squad,” he said. “It’s been a good first month laying the foundation and getting a look at the players and now all focus turns to getting the team ready for the competition.”

“The aim is to play an attacking brand of rugby, we want to keep the ball in hand, put teams under pressure and dictate the tempo of the game. We have quality players that can adapt themselves to pretty much any situation and that gives us a lot of options and flexibility.

“We have a good mix of experienced players, including some Wallaroos, combined with some talented young players with Youth 7s experience. I really see that counting in our favour, we have players that can play different positions that are equipped with great skill sets.

“I think we will be an entertaining team to watch in Super W and hopefully the WA rugby public rallies behind the team and comes down to see what the team can do.”

The full Super W draw is expected to be announced in coming days with entry to all WA home games to be free.

Why is there an asterisk next to Mhicca King's name? Surely it isn't spelt " Mhicca* ", is it?

FANS will have no excuses for missing any of the new Super W rugby competition with all games to be shown on Fox Sports.

The inaugural women’s competition will run for five weeks from March 10 has teams from each Australian Super Rugby club plus the Western Force who will battle it out to be the first ever domestic women’s XVs champions.

The draw is expected to be finalised this week with a number of games will be held as double-headers with men’s fixtures and some matches to be shown live on Fox.

    I still have an excuse.

I'm not giving a cent to Fox until RA can show some form of commitment to a national footprint.
