Personally I don't think Gits should be a first choice #13 as he doesn't have the body to take the extra tackle load, I believe it would end his career prematurely.
While you are correct to an extent Sage with $$$'s = "do as he's told" he wouldn't have signed to come West without some assurances that he will play in his (publicly declared) favoured position. That said I'm sure he will play some of '07 at five eight however I doubt he will be wearing a #10 when he does.
Re Diggers at #13, I think he is a way off from having the required ball skills to hold down this critical position. This will develope with time as you say Andy but in the short term I am pretty sure he will remain on the Wing. As you alluded to, I think there are still two players to leave the list from '06 to make it all balance out?
I don't recall now how that worked, if all S14 squads are standardised at 33 and the Force had a one year exemption or what?
I would think that it would be better for WA and Aus Rugby if we maintained the forty man squads though.

Doesn't the squad consist of 33 contracted players and 7 apprentice's every year?

Interesting the combinations of the back row above. only RF had Pocock on their list.

I think that the Back row combo will be interesting when you have Pusey, Brown, Fava, Pocock, Hodgson and Doherty all competing for 3 positions

Here is my go at it:

    1. Hardy
    2. McIsaac
    3. Takiari
    4. Sharpe
    5. Vedelago
    6. Pusey
    7. Hodgeson
    8. Fava
    9. Henjack
    10. Mackay
    11. Ione
    12. Giteau
    13. Staniforth
    14. Mitchell
    15. Shepherd

    16. Scott
    17. Cannon
    18. Doherty
    19. Brown
    20. Chris O'Young
    21. Hilgendorf
    22. Palesasa

    Unlucky:
    O'Connor
    Pocock
    Cross
    Sare

Just a thought. Do you guys think there is anyone in the local competition not already contracted to the Force one way or the other who is worth a look at in the squad? Coleman from Cott. is one player who comes to my mind.

    9 Henjack
    10 MacKay
    11 Mitchell
    12 Giteau
    13 Staniforth
    14 Cross
    15 Mitchell

    20 O'Young
    21 Hilgendorf
    22 Ioane

    WHAT A BACKLINE!!!!
Whoever plays at 10 in this team will be under constant pressure to keep this backline running. Man there is some talent out there so lets not stuff around with the forwards too much get it straight out to these backs. My prediction to have an awesome season and fly straight into the Wallabies starting XV is Drew Mitchell, he should really be around about there already. I wonder if Stanners will have the same impact at 13 that where he will almost certainly be playing.....unless they boot him back to the wing (I really hope not). I love the competition for places too Henjack vs O'Young MacKay vs Hilgendorf vs Daruda Giteau vs Staniforth vs Pelesasa vs Cross and Mitchell, Ioane and Cross for the winger positions.

If he wasn't so lazy and trained a bit, maybe. He certainly has size advantage and is a hard ball runner.

I find the flexibility interesting - relative merits depending on the opposition of:

    Team 1
    9. Henjak
    10. McKay
    11. Mitchell
    12. Giteau
    13. Staniforth
    14. Ioane
    15. Shepherd

    Team 2
    9. O'Young
    10. Hilgendorf
    11. Ioane
    12. Staniforth
    13. Pelesasa
    14. Cross
    15. Mitchell

Lots of go forward in both, but possibly for different reasons. With the bench, will almost have both options available.

I think that with the backline that we have if our number 10, who ever that may be decides to have a kickfest like Larkham has recently there will be a lynching on the cards.

A kneecapping anyway. It will be interesting to see how the two scrumhalfs shape up, as I thought O'Young's delivery was a lot crisper and could really unleash such a running backline. I would hope both 9s will be working hard on delivering to the chest of a moving player rather than have him stop, reach high or pick it up off his bootlaces.

Following his outstanding return to Australian Rugby this season, how good is Stanners going to look being outside Gits!?
May well be the thing to get Stanners into the Wallabies again for the WC, even if off the bench for Mortlock.
I feel we have the makings of a squad to match all of the other three Australian teams and make an impact on the other ten franchises as well.

I guess the question is does our pack match up to our backline. That is my greatest concern.

If our back is going backwards and being hit behind the advantage line - our super backline is going to look ordinary in a hurry

I believe we have the pack to hold their own and the back row to sufficiently scavange the loose ball.
But that's just me, what do others think?
