Took his chance brilliantly and hopefully this gives him the confidence to really kick on with his career which has been average so far.

It was great watching Smiffy and Marsh really grind the England bowlers into the ground. It was also great watching Joe Root shown up for the average captain he truely is.

Hopefully this morning's rain will be about it for today. And also hopefully Smith will unleash Marsh after he gets in again today, Smash another quick 100 or so and declare. More rain predicted tomorrow. Might be good for the draw betters but the whitewash is on if they can win this.

I'd say as many runs as they can in the morning session (125-150 to get a lead of 275-300) and declare at lunch to give 5, possibly rain-affected sessions to bowl England out.

Worst the weather is supposed to be this arvo/evening according to BOM. I’d say bat until close to lunch and given still 6 wickets still in hand and some capable batsman in the hutch the Aussies can go the tonk.

Could be some fireworks this morning!

I am going tomorrow and will wear my Force gear and would encourage any other Sea of Blue members to do the same. Maybe we can get a Force, Force chant going? Those Force supporters like Alison in the Balmy Army can encourage them and to help out with a joint chant.

A captain is only as good as the bowlers he has.

Yesterday when he took the new ball, a lead of about 165, a new batsman who averaged 21 and he had a deep point, a deep square leg and only 1 slip.

Smith had odd fields today too.

Bingo. I think it was Chappelli and Michael Vaughn pointed out today that Root pays too much attention to Broad's opinion on field placements. Also pointed out that Anderson's bowling average is about half what Broad's is this year.

I think it was yesterday that Root and Broad were “discussing” field placings before Broad bowled. One of them didn’t want the fielders in the deep.
