you might need to register the name with IP Australia too just to cover yourself (otherwise the domain will get seized and handed over to them).

ARU have had www.rugbyaustralia.com.au since March last year. Perhaps they knew shit was gonna hit the fan and a rebrand would be in order?

    Domain Name: rugbyaustralia.com.au
    Last Modified: 24-Mar-2016 00:36:41 UTC
    Status: ok
    Registrar Name: NetNames

    Registrant: Australian Rugby Union Ltd
    Registrant ID: ABN 36002898544
    Eligibility Type: Company
According to Nick Taylor at the West, it was March 2016 when :
Bill Pulver: March 2016, after talks with RugbyWA and the State Government.

“I would be very confident in telling you that the Western Force are going to be a successful part of the Perth sporting scene for a long, long time.

“I still am very much a supporter of a national footprint for Super Rugby and you do not want to do anything that’s going to have any negative on the local community engagement.”

Based on this post earlier - March 2016 was quite a significant period of time. The ARU obviously had plans afoot, and the [yet another] coincidence of registering a new domain name for a not insignificant re-brand is yet another sign that it was all planned!

Personally, I agree with your allegation that some moves were afoot, and we are still desperately searching for that "smoking gun". If we can get our hands on an e-mail or letter implicating the ARU in considering or even discussing dropping a team prior to March 2016, we have the evidence necessary to go for the jugular.

I wonder if the senate inquiry would be aware of the timelines of this re-brand and how it may be entwined with the alliance agreement and SANZAAR decisions, cutting the Force etc ...

    Why?

Because they have damaged the name ARU and Australian Rugby Union beyond redemption. They knew they would damage it by axing a team...any team...and knew it would get dragged through the courts.

Happens all the time when a trading name becomes untenable.

The business names Rugby Australia and Rugby AU are available to register through ASIC. I am presuming that they are remaining incorporated as the Australian Rugby Union and would be looking to use a new trading name. Would be interesting to register the names.

As someone who as gone through and researched this, you only need to be using the name in good faith. For example, if you run a website dedicated to rugby in Australia (a real one, not just a 'front')you have as much right to the domain name "rugbyaustralia.com.au" as anyone else.

They might be able to have the rugbyaustralia.com.au domain but they aren't going to refer to themselves by that name operationally on a day to day basis. If you registered the business or trading names Rugby Australia and Rugby AU which are still available via the ASIC business names register they would have to still use the "Australian Rugby Union" in day to day speak, unless they thought refering to themselves as "rugbyaustralia.com.au" was an attractive thing.

I don't think that's the point. I think the point is that, IF the ARU became Rugby Australia, would the Alliance Agreement still stand?
