    NRL to Christen Burswood Stadium

Todd Greenberg has announced today that Canterbury and South Sydney will both host Season openers as a double header at the new stadium next year. They will be the first football matceds played. Bet the WAFC are impressed.
And yes Fulvio that does sound like something Ralto would say. Dead set.

    Yep here it is
Perth Stadium set to host National Rugby League double-header before its first AFL match
    Nick Taylor
    Monday, 28 August 2017 4:20PM

The National Rugby League will steal a march on the AFL by playing a blockbuster double-header at the new Perth Stadium next year - two weeks before the Dockers and Eagles begin their 2018 campaigns.
South Sydney Rabbitohs and Canterbury Bulldogs will host the afternoon and evening matches on Saturday, March 10.
The NRL will trump the AFL due to the fact its season starts nearly two weeks earlier. The AFL season starts on Thursday, March 22.
Rugby league will be the first rectangular sport played at the stadium. Only a one-day international between Australia and England on January 28 could stop the NRL staging the first sports event at the venue.
Cricket Australia and the WA Cricket Association still hope to play the match at the stadium.
The West Australian revealed last month that the NRL was lining up the Rabbitohs and Bulldogs for the double-header. Their opposition will be confirmed when the 2018 draw is released.

Thats really disappointing... not a WA representation... but then again if league fronted up and the rest sat back relying on entitlement...

The WAFC lives based on entitlement.

This could actually attract me to watch a league game, for the first time in decades, just to annoy the AFL fans!

Yeh i might even watch a league game...but seriously I would prefer to see the opening of the stadium be WA. Depending on time it is ready, dictates which sport, which then dictates what team.

This may not be such a good move for RL as the games this year at NIB involving the bigger teams only attracted 11,000 and 6,000 people. This seems to have gone unnoticed, also the oval type stadium for rugby never goes down well, however they will get people in who just want to experience the new stadium

I predict they'll turn the hype up to 11, give away lots of tickets (or heavily discount them) and try to make a statement in an AFL heartland. Given the timing (before other football starts) they may just succeed. Good luck to them. Oh, and why do they still have scrums?

Both games of League this year were on days where it rained cats and dogs all day. I went to the Souffs game but I didn't bother with the other one (Manly vs Titans?) after getting soaked at Tompkins Park on a very wet and cold July day!

I reckon a good crowd will turn up to this event.

Good deal by the sounds. Two matches one ticket price. If they are smart they will make sure one of them is playing the Warriors and the other a Queensland team. That should go pretty close to filling the joint.
