This bloke makes a point which seems to be lost on the corporate poseurs of the ARU:

    • It HURTS us punters when the Wallabies lose at home.
    • It HURTS to sit at the ANZ Stadium and watch the Wallabies capitulate to the All Blacks 42-8.
    • It HURTS when the losing captain and coach of the Wallabies make yet more excuses for the latest loss.

And in case Rugby WA haven't picked up on this, yes, it HURTS to sit in the nib Stadium and watch the Western Force go down yet again at home by 20 or more points.

Yet the difference is RugbyWA look to at least have a gameplan to stop this from happening as a majority of the results this season have shown.

^ this. Anybody who's watch hodgo virtually tear his heart out in a post match interview knows that they're not, in any way, the same thing.

Just had a look at the post match press conference with Chieka and Hooper. Chiek just rolls out these motherhood statements about what we need to do, but nothing about HOW he plans to do it. His analysis of the game is pretty basic. Full of "We've gotta do this, we've gotta do that" - he's such a muppet....

He said it all during the broadcast when at half time he gave the boys a spray about intensity. No tactical changes, no gameplan tweaks, no tactical substitutions, only a bloody halftime sook.
Even his assistants were asleep at the wheel, Nathan Greys Waratahs defensive pattern was exposed again. Larkham didn't get either of the centres to carry over the gainline, the backs only set move was the cross field kick. Ledesmas mauls lacked body height and proper formation, and glaringly no variation.

Cheika is not tactically smart enough and has no ability to innovate, things go wrong he has a whinge.

    Dear Mr Cheika
We've seen the new game plan and are hoping that it's just a diversionary tactic to lull the ABs into thinking that this is what you think is the strategy to defeat them.
    Yours sincerely
    FF

Almost total passivity at the breakdown until some of the Forward pack came to life at the 50 minute mark. Alaalatoa & TPN had very low numbers.
56% of Total Ruck Involvements in the final 30 minutes.
Even Michael Hooper only had 9 (5A/4D) in the first 50 minutes.(That's at a rate of 14 in 80 mins) He averages 24 TRIs (8A/6D) in 80 mins of Super Rugby.

It's no wonder Karmichael Hunt is being bagged for his lack of attack stats - he was one of the top for Ruck Involvements and made all of the D Ruck Involvements made by Backs. Hunt was 3rd in the Tackle count.
When Hunt went off at 67 minutes he'd had 25 Ruck Involvements and was close to Hanigan, Coleman & Robertson. Hooper had made 20 (11A/9D)

Please look at previous posts for definitions used.

The lack of defensive effort and ruck involvement by the Wallaby Front Row - apart from Tom Robertson - continues to astound me. It has continued to be part of Cheika's strategy but it makes little sense to me.

The Scots certainly showed how to disrupt the opposition ball/game plan.
While making the best of limited opportunities.
Turn Overs Conceded: Scotland 13; Wallabies 18.

The work load of support of the Wallabies ball carrier is being fairly evenly distributed across player groups.

However, the Back Row is carrying almost the full burden of putting pressure on the opposition ball carriers.
But is it any real pressure?

Both teams won 96% of their own rucks.
    Wallabies 107/111; Scotland 86/89.

The Wallabies stood off 58% of the Scotland Rucks.
Only a single Wallaby was involved in another 35% of the Scotland Rucks.
In only 6 rucks was there more than a single Wallaby.
Must feel really lonely entering a ruck knowing that support ISN'T coming.

So now you know how a team with very little fire power in their Backs can have only 43% Possession and 38% Territory yet win the game with 3 tries a piece. And 15 Penalties to 8.

Leading Tacklers: Coleman 14; Robertson & Hooper 9; Hunt 8.

Leading Ball Carriers: Kuridrani 17/95; Foley 13/68; Hooper 13/67.

If this is the game plan without Pocock then it's going to be a loooong year of test Match rugby for Wallabies fans.

Cheika throwing himself around the coaches box and the Academy performance are downright embarrassing. Can you at least look like you're concentrating on a game plan..............oh wait.

Couldn't agree more, he needs to focus less on being a drama queen, whinging/sooking and spitting the dummy and more on some real left-field things like a game plan, increasing player skill levels and, for God's sake, some on-field cohesion and penetration.

His post-game statements have focussed largely on the player's lack of intensity - not a hint of the caching staff taking any responsibility, at least Genia has had the decency to take some responsibility for his two very costly mistakes.

I know it is up to the players once the game starts, but getting the right players there with the right skill set and the right plan and ready to go hard at it is every bit as much a responsibility of the coaches as the players.

Perhaps he should have spent less time on management courses in America and more time on rugby!! Maybe his players make their own destiny applies to his coaching style as well! I usually get so excited for test matches this one I just had on on the background. I'm a sad disillusioned rugby fan at the moment. 😳

If anyone follows the "WTF is with Australian Rugby" page on FB, you may have seen me cop a beating from ESPN hack - Brittany Mitchell - last night for calling Cheika a bogan. It's hilarious.

I am yet to see any justification of why Fardy has been so harshly treated. At least he competes at the breakdown.

If you are going to play Hooper at 7 then you need Fardy at 6.
