Don’t follow me overseas: Force’s Morahan

    Filled in: Rugby Union News

Departing Western Force winger Luke Morahan has urged his teammates not to follow him overseas, saying he can see a bright future for rugby in Western Australia.
Either the Force or Melbourne Rebels will be axed ahead of the 2018 Super Rugby season, meaning neither side can re-sign players until a final decision is made.
The situation has left players from both sides fearing for their futures, with many tempted to sign a deal with an overseas franchise before it becomes too late.
Morahan has already signed on with English outfit Bristol.
The fringe Wallaby made his decision to move to England before the Force’s future was put under the spotlight.
The Force have served a writ on the ARU notifying the governing body of their intention to apply for an injunction if their Super Rugby licence is revoked.
Under the alliance deal struck with the ARU last year, the Force’s future was guaranteed until the end of the current broadcast deal in 2020.
Despite the uncertainty, Morahan is urging his teammates to stay strong and not sign for a rival just yet.
“I’d encourage them to try as much as they can to stay here,” Morahan said.
“There is a good squad here and a good coaching staff, so there’s a good future.
“The outlook in WA for rugby is very bright. I’d advise them to back themselves that we’re going to be here and be part of the future moving forward.”
Morahan has spent the past four seasons at the Force and the franchise holds a special place in his heart.
But the 27-year-old says he committed to Bristol earlier this year so he could start a new chapter in his rugby career and also experience a different way of life.
Morahan’s love for the Force remains strong and he is confident the franchise is too valuable for the ARU to axe it.
“I love the Force. I think they should be in the competition,” Morahan said ahead of Friday’s clash with the Reds in Queensland.
“I think Australia should have five teams for our growth. It’s vital for us to have this nation-wide rugby influence.
“There’s a lot of talent here in WA that would be lost to other codes if we were to leave.
“Even though I am leaving, I’ll still follow the Force. The fans are better than any other team in the competition.
“It would be a mistake for us to lose a franchise over here in WA.”
The Force’s finals hopes were dealt a triple blow over the weekend.
Not only did the Force lose 55-6 to the Highlanders, the Brumbies and Waratahs recorded wins to move further ahead in the Australian conference.
As it stands, the Force are 10 points adrift of the Brumbies and six points behind the Waratahs with only four games remaining.
But Morahan says the Force haven’t given up hope of topping the Australian conference, especially with derbies against the Reds, Waratahs and Rebels to come.

You're a racist prick at times, aren't you Gunny.

How many wars have you fought?

Ever had the shit bombed out of your home islands while manning the pumps for King and Empire?

Ever had your whole race awarded the George Cross for it?

You never cease to amaze. Such a depth of Mungo knowledge!

Even I didn't know all those were "Falcons". But you missed one Fulvio. The great Jeff (I Love Youse All) Fenech once played 2nd grade for the Eels.

Another bit of trivia for those who didn't know the "Falcon" was "invented" by Mario Fenech.
