Yes but why didn't Sinders/Matt bring the topic up?

We can now see quite clearly after yesterday's EGM that the $28 million was used for vote buying by the ARU to shore up its position. The other 4 franchises have been bought with promises of cash and players. Thats the ARU way, spend millions on quick fixes whilst ignoring the need to grow the game and nuture its pathways.

Fuck the lot of them, its war.
And buying in "poster boys" like Folau, Hunt et al is another way they've wasted millions. Buying in ready-made "talent" in the hope that it will lead to east coast SR success and sufficient Wallaby dominance to inspire a whole generation of people to take up or watch rugby is another example of how the ARU has absolutely NFI about how to run our sport.

Not worth dying in a ditch over? Knew it would fall on deaf and dumb ears so why bother wasting oxygen in it? Picking their battles? Sinders has one eye on his next career move? Who knows.

Let's hope they are "saving it for the game" in the first week of August!!!!

Who chaired the meeting, and therefore controlled the agenda? They may not have been given the opportunity.

There were only three items on the agenda. Anything else would be "other business" - wouldn't have a clue what's allowed there at an EGM. And I doubt Joe Public will get within a bull's roar of the minutes.

Without any of us having been present at the meeting we do not know how the meeting was conducted and what was or could be said.

Last night on 6PR Matt was interviewed and mentioned that he tried to state the case for 5 teams, but the vote was for 4 going forward.

That's my question too. Why has this not made the mainstream media?

Wayne, and any other journo, works at the behest of an editor who has only one metric by which his job is measured...how many papers can they sell.

Sure they'll sell about 5,000 papers in Perth if they write the full story, but the eastern states public has proven to be exactly as parochial as us when it comes to sport stories, they won't bother with stories that makes them worried about the loss of their rugby team.

Truth is no longer even a concept in modern journalism (unless it is coincidentally related to the story you can sell easiest, in which case the reporter shouts from the rooftops that he is on a hunt for the truth)

Can someone remind me why it was that RugbyWA chose to sell the licence & IP rather than obtain a loan? Was it that the ARU said the only way they would help us was if we sold the licence etc back to them?

As the Rebels got a handout in every single year from 2010 to 2015 (when Cox took over) and then that "special" payment of $2.6m in 2016, it's utterly disingenuous of the ARU not to have treated the Force in exactly the same manner.

RUPA not happy with outcome of the meeting:

    Foxsports

THE boss of Australia’s rugby players association had hoped to gain some clarity from the ARU’s extraordinary general meeting.

But Ross Xenos left Tuesday’s talkfest still searching for answers.

Xenos, the chief executive of the Rugby Union Players’ Association, had in May supported the Victorian Rugby Union’s call for an EGM in the wake of the Australian Rugby Union’s decision to cut one of its five Super Rugby sides for 2018 and beyond.

But RUPA’s ‘Stronger as Five’ mantra was again shot down on Tuesday as a secret ballot upheld the ARU’s decision to remove either the Force or Rebels.

Xenos released a statement on Wednesday bemoaning what he viewed as a damaging information gap that was affecting the welfare of Australia’s players.

“Given the uncertainty and ambiguity that has existed as a result of the ARU’s decision to eliminate an Australian Super Rugby team, it was necessary for RUPA to support this meeting in order for all ARU voting members to be afforded a forum to better understand the ARU’s position and to discuss the best means forward for Super Rugby in Australia,” Xenos said.

“VRU and RUPA jointly put three resolutions forward to the meeting strongly believing that the best interests of rugby in Australia are promoted by the retention of all five Super Rugby teams through to the end of the current broadcast cycle.

“We continue to contend that vacating professional rugby from any state is a strategy that should not be pursued.”

ARU chairman Cameron Clyne spoke to media after the EGM on Tuesday and reaffirmed his position that five teams was simply unsustainable — both economically and in terms of on-field performance.

The ARU claims that slashing a team would free up significant funds to redistribute into the game’s unnourished grassroots.

But Xenos said no evidence or specifics were provided at the EGM as to how that would happen.

Yesterday’s meeting did not guarantee any certainty of cost savings and there were no commitments from the ARU as to where any extra funds, if realised would be allocated,” Xenos said.

“There remains no clear legal path or time frame for when a final decision will be made.

“The support from voting members for the third of our resolutions proposing the establishment of a Super Rugby commission is an important step for Australian teams to have a stronger platform to collaborate and promote the future of the competition that they participate in.”

RUPA is holding its own annual general meeting on Wednesday afternoon and was represented at the EGM by Xenos, chairman Bruce Hodgkinson, president Dean Mumm, Rebels player director Tom English and Force player director Matt Hodgson.

Two South African teams — likely to be the Kings and Cheetahs — will also be cut in a proposed return to a 15-team competition model.

RUPA need to bring in a bit of the CFMEU attitude by way of an advisory committee.

Smacks of naivety to me. Just assuming they would win the vote without having a Plan B.

I thought it sounded more like he was complaining that clone chaired the meeting like this

"good morning everyone, we have three resolutions before us, voting on resolution 1. Done, resolution 2, done, resolution 3, shit that's a bit of a surprise, done. Thanks everyone, pub?"

Naive is the word! That's why Clyne was so amenable to having the meeting because he knew that they could control it with their 'secret' ballot. Obviously failed to tell RUPA what they were doing and kept everyone in the dark. What is really pissing me off is someone on the Board like Eales that I thought WAS an upstanding person, but apparently he's crooked as the rest of them (bar Stooke). RUPA are about as strong as a wet sponge in all of this. Why can't someone stand up and start shouting FFS!
