A WAVE park on the Swan River in Alfred Cove is one step closer after the local council voted to approve a ground lease.

Melville City Council voted seven to four in favour of the park in a marathon meeting on Thursday night.

Urbnsurf (Perth) Pty Ltd will now get access to 44,065sqm of riverfront land at Tompkins Park for 30 years, with the option of another 20 years.

The proposed wave park has been the subject of controversy, while the Alfred Park Action Group was vehemently opposed to the development.

The Sunday Times revealed business links between a council officer and Wave Park Group Pty Ltd, which owns Urbnsurf (Perth) Pty Ltd.

On Thursday, the City of Melville issued a statement saying the Public Sector Commission had found “no minor misconduct” in relation to allegations against City of Melville officer Todd Cahoon, who had previously owned shares in Wave Park Group.
