New some played some fb in the trial didn't he?

Of the names on that list, he's the one whose body shape looks closest to a fullback.

If he's not up to standard I'd go for Morahan, with his experience and broken field running he'd do ok, but nobody holds a candle to Dane atm.

    Totally agree.
Would have thought that the Crusaders was just the game that could jolt DHP back into the form that he showed us last year.
He's been very subdued since his return after his Wallabies break.
He's made half the run m, barely any tackles and his kicking is "off".
Surely our best players would want to play against the best opposition?
Weren't we trying to be competitive this year???

The answers to all of the above is YES, but, DHP is not being rested, he is carrying an injury.

Thanks Innforcer. There's been talk about a groin injury BUT.....

    The Australian - Wayne Smith
"...the Western Force have left Test utility Dane Haylett-Petty out of their side to play the Crusaders in Christchurch on Friday to give him a chance to recover from a recurring groin injury."

    Western Force Website
“In the backline……..Wallaby Dane Haylett-Petty will be rested”: Fraser Smith, 20 March 2017

    FoxSports Website
Haylett-Petty has been given time off after a taxing year in 2016 where he made his Wallabies debut and went on to start in 15 Tests on the wing.
“He played more rugby than he is used to last year and we feel that we have opportunity to manage his load,” Force coach David Wessels told foxsports.com.au.

    Green & Gold Rugby

While it sounds fishy, Force coach Dave Wessels insists that it’s all part of the plan.
“It was part of his plan from the start,” Wessels told rugby.com.au. “I sat down with Dane probably a couple of days pre-Christmas and mapped out his season decided back then.
“Dane’s played a lot of rugby more rugby than he was used to and he has for some years had a bit of a flareup of his groin,” Wessels said, giggling like a teenage boy.
“It’s not an injury as such, it’s just load managing more than anything and this tour presented the chance to do that.”
Wessels reckons resting DHP isn’t a bad idea, saying that if the All Blacks do it then it can’t be too bad can it?
“It’s just a smart thing to do – to expect a guy to play every minute of every game is just unrealistic,” he said.
“The average number of players used in Super Rugby teams is 38 – that’s two-and-a-half teams. It’s better to try and manage that and be proactive than have to be reactive when someone gets injured.”

There's probably more but it sounds to me that DHP's being rested.

With 1 Win from 3 games I'd prefer that we played our best team when we can.

Do the NH rest players during the year? They play a lot more games in a season than we do.

I would consider resting a player to be when they are injury free, essentially dropped.

DHP while not playing is being managed rather rested.

If DHP is genuinely injured or managing an injury that's fine, I'm a little surprised the info about DHP niggling injury was not reported in the RugbyWA release of the team sheet.

"Wallaby player being rested" would be open to all kinds of speculation.

The team announcement I saw read "Rested due to a niggling groin injury" I think they're probably playing down the severity of his injury.

Nothing like these let's hope, given the pending decision.

Despite our good record against the Saders, they've been pretty awesome this season.. Blues on the other hand are a confidence side - if we get in their faces early on and stop them getting any rhythm, I think we could take them. If we're reasonably competitive in both matches, I'll be happy. Hodgo will be busting a gut to get out there and make a difference. Timely with Rhino out.

The OP on page 1 makes no mention of any injury and clicking the link takes you the Western Force news article about the squad that makes no mention of it either.
