over at the GAGR forum they are seriously postulating that fixing super rugby means the rebels or force for the chop

No mention of the c&ckshow that has been the brumbies in recent years, nor that they have about 3 ACT juniors in their first team. They laughably describe the ACT as hotbed for rugby talent.

It's the inability of the plonkers east of Anzac avenue or north of the bridge to make a commitment to grow the rugby market in a practical sense which is killing the game here. Short term pain for long term gain.

Continued talk about cutting a team is a self fulfilling prophecy. Commit to 5 teams, spread the talent evenly and bring the juniors through. If they cut another super rugby team they will just end up with less and less people playing (and ultimately watching) rugby.

They should also shut up about a western sydney team. nobody cares. They obviously want to copy the success of the A-league in this respect. they could probably get more supporters to a Minto Cobras league match then a two blues or emus match combined.

Check out the comment from Rebels3 at the top of the comments. Pretty much sums up the commercial realities of rugby and the results of cutting a team. Especially the last paragraph.

Hope SAANZAar understands this as well.

All this talk and comments about who should go or who should stay is very sad.

Over the past twelve years I have been fortunate enough to get to know a few of the players and people around the club. Not on a personal level but through match days and events, and at the end of the day they are real people associated with our game, and not just numbers.

Culling this, dropping that, changing this and that will have ramifications on "real people". People that have have become depenedent on what has been created to earn thier living, be they players, coaches, support staff, admin staff, suppliers, businesses enagaged to assist or sell product(s) for their livilihood, and others where what has been created has become their emotional and other outlet, hobby or giving them something to aspire to.

If something does not exist it is easy to say do not create it, however once it has been created there will be collorteral damage if you then take it or part of it away. This state, this country has an economic problem and taking away jobs no matter how small or insignificant it may seem has a ripple effect.

It is time to get behind all the franchises, their players, support staff, supporters, suppliers, and any one else that is involved in this great game of ours and say enough is enough, we have to take what we have and make it work better but not by culling but rather making modifications of some sort to keep it going and make sure it delivers as best it can for all stakeholders.

Considering the accenture report is written from the point of view of what best for super rugby, I wonder if the ARU have done a similar exercise as what the IRFu did as to how many teams is good for the wallabies.

"Across their social media accounts, players have been vocal in their support for a franchise that has helped some of its journey men become Wallabies in recent times.

But they’re putting their actions to their tweets, taking an initiative coach Dave Wessels says he hasn’t seen before.

“We had a couple of players going up to the commercial department, asking about how they could support it and creative ideas about how to get behind the road safety (campaign) and the guys in the commercial department said that's just never happened before,” Wessels said."

So short sighted.. The only way to have the best national team in the world it to draw talent from all corners of the continent. If you want to uncover ALL the talent, you need a team in every corner. So you find EVERY young player.. Not just the players who have family rich enough to fund them relocating to the 2 rugby states so they can try their luck.

If this dilutes the quality of the Australian supper rugby teams? So be it.

I call bull on that figure. They must have been crammed into the boxes to reach over 10,000 - nowhere in the stadium was busy - we were down near the half-way line and our row of 25 seats had 9 people in and was one of the busier rows. Behind us, under some sort of cover, it wasn't much busier; the opposite side was pretty sparse and the ends almost totally unoccupied.

But Allianz holds 44,000, so even if the NSWRU's figures are correct, that's only 25% full. We managed 33% full for a Thursday night game last night (pretty woeful figure for us, but we have been woeful for 2 seasons, so maybe it's just the hard-core left) and I'm sure Nib is cheaper to hire than Allianz
