Looks like the contents of a pack of licorice all sorts left on the dash of a parked car.

When the spirit wore those last week I assumed they were some kind of training top. I didn't think it was possible for anybody to consider that monstrosity as a game jersey.

It's as bad as some of the worst French jerseys.

Think it fits in with the Tens idea, light hearted and a bit of fun.

It's good for what it is - obviously not for the regular season.

I also like the look of them! The jersey has a background with a bit of an Islander theme which is not out of place with our dynamic and mixed player heritage and the 10's. After watching a lot of 10's in Asia, I'm heading over to Brisvegas and really looking forward to the event

YOUR GUIDE TO BRISBANE GLOBAL RUGBY TENS

By Fraser Smith on Thu 9th February 17

It has been billed as ‘Two Days in Rugby Heaven’ and with the Brisbane Global Tens kicking off this weekend it looks set to be one of the most of exciting weekends of rugby one could ask for.

The 14-team, two-day tournament launches at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday with all 10 Australian and New Zealand Super Rugby clubs competing for the title as well as French glamour club Toulon, the Bulls, Samoa and Japanese side the Panasonic Wild Knights.

After a good trial win over the Melbourne Rebels on Monday the Road Safety Western Force are chopping it the bit to get into the Tens and will take some form into the weekend after being crowned World Club 10’s Mauritius Champions last year.

Western Force Skills Coach Kevin Foote has been appointed Head Coach for the tournament due to his vast experience in both sevens and tens, including captaining the South African Sevens team, the Blitzbokke.

Check out our guide to the weekend, for everything you need to know about the tournament, rules, teams and players to watch!

    What is Tens?

Tens is a hybrid of the traditional 15-man game and the increasingly popular format of rugby sevens. The objective is to promote free-flowing and fast paced rugby, while still retaining the physical intensity and set-piece work that you get in the full form of the game.

The inaugural Brisbane Global Rugby Tens is run by Duco Events, who also run the Auckland Nines NRL tournament who have worked for several years to arrange a similar tournament in union.

    What are the Rules?

The rules are based on World Rugby’s official rugby Tens rules.

    1) 10 players per team on field.
    2) Eight substitutes, with unlimited interchanges.
    3) 10 minute halves. Five-minute halftime.
    4) Knockout matches drawn after regulation are continued into extra time, in multiple 5-minute periods.
    5) All conversion attempts must be drop-kicked.
    6) Conversions must be taken within 40 seconds of scoring a try.
    7) Five player scrums.
    8) Scoring team kicks off
    9) Yellow cards net a three-minute suspension.
    10) Referees rule on advantage quickly (where one play usually ends advantage).

    What are the Pools?

POOL A: Chiefs, Rebels, Waratahs, Wild Knights

POOL B: Blues, Crusaders, Reds, Samoa

    POOL C: Bulls, Brumbies, Highlanders

    POOL D: Hurricanes, Toulon, Force

The Force will play three matches on Day One of the tournament with clashes against the Hurricanes Toulon, and the Bulls before the knock out stages on Day Two!

    Western Force Players to Watch:

The Force’s 26-man squad for the weekend is full of exciting talent set to light up Suncorp Stadium this weekend including the likes of Wallaby winger Luke Morahan, play maker Jono Lance, dynamic No.9 Ryan Louwrens and powerhouse young prop Shambeckler Vui.

Although we think the following three men are in for a big weekend at the Tens!

    Michael Ruru – The MVP

Michael Ruru was instrumental in the Western Force’s triumph at the World Club 10’s Mauritius last season playing at both scrumhalf and flyhalf through the competition and averaging more than a try a game to be named tournament MVP. The New-Zealand born 26-year-old is ferocious competitor, blessed with a beautiful pass and looks to exploit gaps at the base of the ruck when they appear. With his sights set on a Super Rugby debut in 2017 he will be doing everything he can to impress this weekend.

Curtis Rona – The NRL Superstar

New signing and former NRL Superstar Curtis Rona was ultra-impressive on Monday evening on the Gold Coast breaking the line and putting players through gaps in the win over the Rebels and you can expect him to carry it down the coast to Brisbane. The speedster will no doubt thrive in the open space and has experience having been a member of the North Queensland Cowboys victorious Auckland Nines side in 2014, where he scored two tries in the final against the Brisbane Broncos before representing the Canterbury Bulldogs in 2015.

Isireli Naisarani – The Fijian Freight Train

Powerful Fijian No.8 Isireli Naisarani was undoubtedly the breakout star of the Buildcorp National Rugby Championship with his incredible power, strong turn of pace, incredible offloading ability and competitive nature. Standing at 195cm and weighing in at 110kg Naisarani cuts an imposing figure on the pitch and with the free flowing and open nature of Tens don’t be surprised if you see the big man run over a few people. With a full pre-season under his belt Naisarani is fit and firing and will look to use the Brisbane Global Rugby Tens to launch his bid for a Super Rugby debut.

If they played like they did on Monday against the rebels, Meakes - Rona and Peni were all twins joined at the hip and continued to bash the line, worked well so could be an interested 10s (even if Meakes doesnt get a jersey)
