Alcohol.Think Again Western Force Women’s Sevens Team Named

    By Fraser Smith
    Tue 1st November 16

Former Australian Sevens and Wallaroos star Debby Carly has named her Alcohol.Think Again Western Force Women’s Sevens for the upcoming Senior Sevens National Championships in Adelaide from November 19-20.

Cottesloe and Palmyra make up the majority of the side with five and three players respectively while Wanneroo, Kalamunda and Southern Lions all boast one representative in the side.

2014 World Cup Wallaroo Natasha Haines will captain the side and be supported by fellow capped Wallaroos Madeleine Putz and Vesinia Schaaf-Taufa who recently made her Test debut against the Black Ferns at Eden Park.

Southern Lions product Shanice Parker is the youngest member of the team at just 18-years-old and will continue to represent her home state having recently relocated to east coast after accepting a full contract with the Qantas Australian Women’s Sevens Team.

Carley says the team’s preparations are coming along nicely as they look to turn some heads at the National Championships.

“I think this is one of the most talented sevens teams that WA has ever taken away,” she said. “We are coming together well and have a good range of skill sets. In the last few weeks we are just building team chemistry and fine tuning things before we head to Adelaide.”

Speaking on the players selected in the squad Carley believes they have assembled a high quality side.

“We’ve got Shanice (Parker) who at 18 has already been picked up as part of the Australian Sevens squad so she will be a really important player for us.”

“We’ve got experience with three Wallaroos. Tash Haines will be a great captain for us and having girls like Maddy (Putz) and Vesinia (Schaaf-Taufa) who bring that higher level of experience to the team will be a big boost to the team.”

“Everyone selected has shown some really good form this year and been training really well so there is some real excitement about heading over there.”

After claiming the Plate at last year’s National Championship the Head Coach Deb Carley says the team has set some high goals for themselves heading into this year’s tournament.

“The goal is obviously to win the tournament, we are going in as the underdogs but we are preparing as best as we can and hopefully we can show everyone the great talent that WA has to offer Australian rugby.”

The Alcohol.Think Again Western Force Women’s Sevens will kick off their National Championship campaign in Adelaide on November, 19.
