Western Force full-back Dane Haylett-Petty says the side is excited about the appointment of new coach David Wessels, who will lead the club for the next two Super Rugby seasons.

Haylett-Petty is in Perth training with the Wallabies before Saturday night’s Rugby Championship clash with Argentina at nib Stadium.

“I’m really excited about Dave. All the boys work really well with him,” he said.

“He’s got a great rugby brain. He’s a great fit for us.

“We brought in a new style last year, maybe bit off more than we could chew, but definitely not having to start fresh again and building on that style, everyone is looking forward to it.”

Haylett-Petty is also looking forward to having Curtis Rona in the backline next season.

“He’s very exciting, a bit of size and speed out wide,” Haylett-Petty said.

“We’ve got a young but very talented squad that’s going to do really well.”

Wallabies coach Michael Cheika is another Rona fan and has him on his radar as a future international.

“I’ve met Curtis a couple of times. One thing about him, and why you know he’s going to be successful over here, is he’s pumped about it,” Cheika said.

“He’s excited and he’s so keen to play, to get back playing rugby. He wanted to get back to Perth which is a real positive and his league form is really good.

“He’s aggressive, he’s a big guy got a good skill set.

“I have no doubt he’s going to be a player in the reckoning for sure.”

Meanwhile Haylett-Petty, who is on a steep learning curve as a Wallaby winger, said the side was confident after their six-game drought breaking 23-17 win over South Africa.

“It’s been a tough start but great to get that win, an amazing feeling and reward for all the hard work,” he said.

“We’re really starting to trust each other and the systems are starting to work.

“The composure the boys had under pressure, to able to fight back, and under pressure at the end to hold on was a great all round effort.

“We’ve always had the belief that we were heading in the right direction but it was a confidence booster. We needed that as a team.

“The boys needed that little bit of confidence. It was a steep learning curve with the All Blacks games

“It’s going to be a different challenge against Argentina but there are plenty of places to improve we didn’t capitalise on our opportunities.”
