under-20 centre Bill Meakes, Godwin etc

Western Force are set to sign former Australian sevens and under-20 centre Bill Meakes, who has been released from his contract with English premiership club Gloucester.
Meakes, 25, will replace Junior Rasolea who is moving to Scottish club Edinburgh. The Force have still not lost hope of retaining his midfield partner Kyle Godwin who has had talks with the Brumbies and Waratahs.
Meakes joined Gloucester’s academy from Randwick in 2014 before signing a professional contract last year.
He played for Australia in the 2011 junior World Cup and in the 2011-12 IRB sevens world series.
Meanwhile, prop Tetera Faulkner will miss the last two games of the year against the Stormers at nib Stadium on Saturday night and the Brumbies in Canberra a week later after damaging an Achilles tendon and being carried from the field after 20 minutes of the heartbreaking 30-29 loss to the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein.
Second-rower Adam Coleman, who was a late withdrawal with a neck problem picked up in his Test debut against England, will be fit for the Stormers clash.
Interim coach Dave Wessels was forced to move Rory Walton from the reserves and Matt Phillips went on to the bench.
Phillips, who is expected to sign for the Force, was called in from the Sydney University club just two weeks ago.
“Matt did a fantastic job,” Wessels said. “He’s done an incredible amount of work to get across all the details of his role. We’re excited to see him grow over the next little while.”
Wessels said his side left itself with too much work after a disappointing first half when it leaked four tries to be 27-10 down at the break.
They missed 17 tackles, were slow to the breakdown allowing the Cheetahs to set their defensive line and often had no answer to the power of their scrum.
“A very poor first half gave us too much to do in the second. A number of things in the first half let us down,” Wessels said.
“We had too many soft moments, too many missed tackles at crucial times that let them get in behind us and a poor execution of our kicking game.
“There is still a lot of fight in this team, to come out at half-time and do what they did was pleasing. They are playing for each other and we will build on that second half.”
Replacement fly-half Peter Grant missed a long-range 80th-minute penalty that would have given the Force the lead and then they put together 23 phases after the siren before coughing up possession.
Two tries from Wallabies winger and man of the match Dane Haylett-Petty put them in striking distance but the Force let a third win of the season slip away.
Haylett-Petty ran for 209m, scored an outstanding individual try in the 50th minute after a quick line-out throw 60m out and crossed from a scrum set play.

Western Force are chasing the signature of former Wallabies and Queensland Reds prop Ben Daley.

The 114kg front-rower made his Super Rugby debut for the Reds in 2008 and the first of his three Wallaby appearances two years later.

Daley, 28, has played 79 games for the Reds but a horror run of injuries, including a pectoral muscle tear in round three this year, has restricted him to only 30 games across the 2013-16 seasons.

Meanwhile, the Force have advertised for a new coach to fill the toughest role in Australian Super Rugby two weeks after dumping Michael Foley. Hopefuls have a fortnight to submit their applications, around the same time as Queensland are expected to announce their new coach.

With the Force in an “alliance” with the Australian Rugby Union, a selection panel of the ARU’s chief operations officer Rob Clarke and high performance director Ben Whittaker with Force chief executive officer Mark Sinderberry and RugbyWA chairman Tony Howarth will make the decision.

It is understood the ARU would have no objection to the appointment of an overseas coach which brings former Springboks mentor Heyneke Meyer and the Crusaders’ Todd Blackadder firmly into the picture.

Meyer toldThe West Australian he was interested in the role. He would certainly be able to tap into South Africa's huge talent pool, something the Force have already begun with their overseas development players and Future Force academy.

There are reports that Blackadder has already been interviewed by the Reds who are looking for a replacement for Richard Graham.

Blackadder is leaving after eight seasons at the Crusaders. Another overseas coach who has been thrown into the mix at the Force and Reds, is former England boss Stuart Lancaster.

If Matt O’Connor, current co-coach at the Reds with Nick Stiles, does not get the top job he would likely turn his attention to the Force.

Other Force options include Scotland’s Australian assistant coach Matt Taylor, Force foundation assistant coach John Mulvihill and fomer Foley assistant Dave Wessels, who was handed an audition when put in charge for the last three games.

Ben Daley? Why? He has to be the shittest prop ever to play for the Wallabies. Hope he proves me wrong, but this seems like Heiberg Mk II.

It appears that the pundits for "The sky is falling" and "Force to fold in 2020" are getting more traction than the "ARU will finally understand us" and "We're finally going to have a level playing field"

Reds get a 50 test Wallaby (Quade) and we get their rejects.

Daley is a signing along the lines of Lance or Tapuai - being pushed out of his franchise by younger players coming through, but still wants to play in Australia, possibly still thinking about Wallaby caps.

Lance has been rejuvenated in Force blue; Taps hasn't exactly pulled up any trees.

Given our history of signing aging props from other franchises (Dunning, Ma'afu) this isn't necessarily a good move

James - you are being delightfully polite - another reject bin target that will get paid a wedge to waddle around the paddock reminiscing about the 3 Wallabies caps he had in 1907 when the Black Death had wiped out any other other prop on the continent.

Given that Pek is well past it, Tet is more focused on his young family (good for him - there has to be a reason for his form dip), we are now running with one decent prop (FVW) and a shambles..... same old same old.

Doesn't occur that Faulkners form is due to pre-season injury and a couple of niggles. He'll be better next year.

If we don't get anything better than Daley and his ilk, it'll become obvious to me that the ARU have no genuine interest in making the Force competitive and are just marking time until the SANZAAAAAR TV deal is re-negotiated. In which case, deal me out.
