I think it is an obtuse way of highlighting the fact that the kiwi ref went to uncontested scrums when the highlanders pulled a sneaky and were telling him that they had no one for LHP.

yeah - to be honest, i don't think second rowers should lead to uncontested scrums. it is not a typically hard position to play (scrum wise), but would severely weaken the scrum.

I would be interested to hear from our residential refs (yes that's you Ecky et al) about what flexibility if any is allowed within the laws hen it comes to the safety and welfare of players.

Is there a law that states play must stop when streaker enters the ground or is play stopped out of concern for safety and welfare of the players? No doubt this will come into play on Friday and the offender will probably have been wearing a Warriors jumper before disrobing

The law regarding uncontested scrum ONLY relates to whether a team can field suitably trained front row players. That the players in a scrum behind the front row aren't trained in that position is irrelevant to whether a scrum goes uncontested or not.

I expect the 4th/5th official (ie the ref who is responsible for player movements on/off the field) for that match may well receive some counselling. But they would not be expected to know whether a player named as THP can also play LHP, or vice versa.

So they have to rely on the integrity of the players/coaches involved in such a case. Meaning the Highlanders officials and players concerned are lacking in that department, if Grant Nisbet knows his stuff.

That was probably whilst I was still raging at the effect the decimation of our forward pack had on the rest of the team (THat rant pretty much lasted the rest of the game, so there's a high likelihood)
