    Blow for Perth NRL team

I'm wasn't sure if this was the right place for this. Anyhow read on.

    Nick Taylor

Hopes for a Perth-based NRL club have taken a blow with the announcement of a new $1.8 billion five-year broadcast deal starting in 2018.

The NRL deal locks in eight games a round, making more clubs unlikely. The best hope for NRLWA — the sport’s local governing body — would be the relocation of an existing club.

Relocation is an option being investigated by the NRL’s head of strategy Shane Richardson in his review of the game. He has expressed support for a Perth club and is expected to table his report by the end of next month.

The NRL was non-committal about relocation after announcing the TV deal.

“The broadcast deal will not impact on expansion. Our priority is to help develop 16 financially robust clubs,” a spokesman said.

More likely is relocation of a franchise which is currently doing it's level best to self destruct. How does Western Tigers sound?

You do. Well at least enough to read the post and add a pointless comment.

I think Shane Richardson is due to hand over his expansion report early next year, I guess we will know where the NRL stands on expansion. Won't hold my breath but I'm sure there will be clauses in the new TV deal for a possible 9th game. It's almost a given that one of the new sides will be in Brisbane given the recent groundswell, but with the new Friday 6pm game I fear that WA has now fallen behind NZ because it is the only logical explanantion for a kick time at such a rubbish time.

As a League fan I fear that the opportunity to expand west is going to missed.

From a union perspective it's better for the NRL not to come to WA.
But I'd still like to see a team over there
