It was always going to be sloppy. A handful of those guys are seriously short on match fitness (Simmons, Douglas, Palu, McMahon to name a few) and others were playing out of position. We lose a lot of presence at the breakdown with no Hooper or Pocock at 7. One of the risks of playing a wide game is that it is easier to exploit mistakes and the USA were able to do that a couple of times. Our big mistake was that we didn't go forward enough before going wide. The Eagles defence fanned out a lot and I reckon easy metres could have been gained in close to the ruck which would also suck in players to make more out of wide play.

No such thing as a "first team" this early in RWC campaign and playing them match in match out, it's all about horses for courses. A "first team" will begin to show itself if we make it past the pools, before then it's not about "our best" but about who we are playing against, oh and don't forget the inevitable injuries!
