UWA’s finals aspirations took a massive hit last round as the defending champions were outmatched by third-placed Kalamunda 25-6. The Students will look to inject some energy into their attack in hope of bouncing back to topple the competition leaders in front of their loyal home crowd.

Nedlands proved yet again why they are team to beat in 2015 with a ruthless 52-point triumph over Perth Bayswater. ‘Neddies’ ran in a massive ten tries against ‘Baysie’ to claim their tenth four-try bonus-point of the season and will be keen to bring the same intensity to McGillivray Oval this weekend.

Cottesloe will be keen to consolidate their place in the four when they take on fellow top four side, Wests Scarborough.

Cottesloe have been in a rich vein of form recently, earning bonus-point victories in their last three outings including 32-point rout of Joondalup last round, 65-33. The Gulls ran in nine tries against the Brothers including a hat-trick to Ivan Wright and will be looking for more of the same against the steadfast defence of West Scarborough.

Wests Scarborough are sitting comfortably in second place after 14 rounds of the 2015 Pindan Premier Grade season and will look to continue to apply pressure to table-topping. The Boars will take plenty of confidence into the contest coming off the back of 38-point win over Wanneroo last round in with 20-points coming from flyhalf AJ Alatimu who scored two tries and kicked five conversions.

Associates (5) v Kalamunda (3) at Allen Park, Swanbourne.
Round 6: Kalamunda 15 defeated Associates 14 at Hartfield Park, Forrestfield.

Associates will look to return to the winners list when they play host to third-placed Kalamunda at Allen Park.

The Swanbourne club has dropped its last four matches after going down to Palmyra in a tight encounter, 29-25. Despite a lack of recent victories, ‘Soaks’ sit just a game outside the four and will be keen to turn things around in hope of cracking back into the top four by season’s end.

Kalamunda continued their hot form in Round 14 and consolidated their place in the top four with a commanding 25-6 victory over UWA. The Bulls ran in four tries against ‘Uni’ to notch up their ninth four-try bonus-point of the season and will be intent on maintaining their attacking prowess when they travel to Allen Park. Apineru Faamanatu continues to terrorise his opposition tallying his 18th try of the season last round to lead the competition.

Associates: 1. John Ogilvie, 2. Tabbie Du Plessis, 3. Andy Lawrence, 4. Lachlan Valentine, 5. Peter Trend, 6. Dean Taylor-Menzies , 7. Michael Hardwick, 8. Michael Polastri, 9. Justin Turner, 10. Palmyra (6) v Perth Bayswater (10) at Tompkins Park, Alfred Cove.
Round 6: Palmyra 30 defeated Perth Bayswater 7 at Pat O'Hara Reserve, Morley.

Palmyra will look to accelerate their late season charge towards the four when they take on Perth Bayswater at Tompkins Park.

Palmyra currently sit in sixth place just five points outside of the four and are perfectly poised to launch an attack on top four in the last four rounds of the season. ‘Paly’ claimed an important win over Associates in Round 14, grinding their way to a 29-25 victory. With bonus-points likely to be a huge factor in the race of third and fourth Paly will look to be at the attacking best against ‘Baysie’.

Perth Bayswater are still on the hunt for their first victory of the 2015 season and will look to cause an upset when they travel to Tompkins Park. ‘Baysie’ went down to Palmyra by 23-points when the sides last met in Round 6 and will look to show how much they’ve improved since May.

Wanneroo (9) v Joondalup (8) at Kingsway Reserve, Landsdale.
Wanneroo 17 defeated Joondalup 13 HBF Arena Sportsplex, Joondalup.

Wanneroo and Joondalup will both be looking to bounce back after heavy defeats last round when the Roodogs host the Brothers for the club’s Harmony Day.

Wanneroo will be intent on strengthening their defence when they play host to Joondalup. The Roodogs conceded seven tries in last round’s loss to Wests Scarborough and will be focused on regaining the defensive intensity that saw them overcome Joondalup back in the Round Six.

Joondalup will also be focused on the defence this weekend, after leaking 65-points in Round 14 despite scoring 33-points against Cottesloe. After going down to the Roodogs earlier in the season the team will need to be at their best against a confident Wanneroo outfit.

Now we will see how much depth is around for some clubs who relied heavily on WF contracted players.

When everything looked rosey at nedlands 5first half injuries to nedlands and 4 in the first 20mins through the bench into a spin.plus the intensity uni showed in the contest it made for a grueling game.i was very impressed with richard hardwick who was the difference.a. contentious penalty that went against neddies which was very kickable which was the difference.can one of u refs clear a law up for me,the ball was at the back of the ruck which was deemed by ref to be out and the uni player came round the side of the ruck and dove on the ball at the back of the neddies ruck is this play on or does the uni player have to stay on his feet to ay at the ball.anyway the rugbywa cup inspired a nothing game to be a hard fought game played with passion .so well done uni well deserved and congrats to rugbywa coming up with this initiative. Can some someone report on the baysie win and what happened as paly 2nds only just won too

if you dive on the ball and theres someone from the opposition right there on their feet then you cant just lay on the ball. you must get up and play it or let the player on their feet have the ball. Hope that helps u. we will do the grammar and punctuation lesson in a later post

I stayed and watched this game as Mandurah boys were in town.
From a neutral view, the officiating in this game was not up to scratch. Nedlands before they had their injuries(which was bizarre) were all over uni with three tries disallowed through poor positioning and lack of pace from the line umpires able to keep up.
The offside line was only refereed to one side as Nedlands play at high octane, uni were often caught out, but nedlands were the only side being penalised for offside when uni had the ball. At times they were fair enough but uni got away with a lot.
From the earlier post the player came from an offside position and dived on the ball and then played off the ground.
Also nedlands player made a break with players each side and uni deliberatly knocks ball down with a try inevitable. Player rightly penalised but gets to stay on field when a penalty try would not have been a wrong decision. WTF!
Once injuries occurred within about 5 minutes at around the 20 minute mark, and with the officiating going all uni's way the game then became a contest! Before that it was all Nedlands with ease. Uni were fortunate to score first from an 90m intercept from a nedlands onslaught from the kickoff.
The last two penalties that enabled Uni to get field position were also hard to fathom.
Nedlands will look back on this game as a turning point in the season, which way they go will be up to them.
Didnt see their gun halfback either, the one playing had a bad leg.
Uni will be happy, had a lot go their way, with no real threat in attack, dominated at scrum and had a lot of ball which was belted at times by Nedlands.
That cup is huge and that will make their season if they keep it.

Watched the game on the streaming channel this morning. Pretty unlucky to lose but I am sure Uni will talk about the win for a long time.
Most other clubs would have gone with uncontested scrums considering Nedlands used up at least 2 front rows, but that wouldn't have been in the spirit of rugby nor should it be.

And yet when we sneak home by one point against Uni 4 weeks ago we are accused of being shit without our force players by the very same people on this thread and we didn't blame the ref or injuries either.

Wests Scarborough 1st Grade juggernaut has played finals rugby each and every year since its inception and continues this remarkable feat yet again this season and unbelievably it's still rolling on and as an added little circle jerk for the masses Wests actually hold the record for the current longest unbroken finals record.

Nah different, players lost during a game, where they are replaced with players who have 80 minutes of colts/2nds under their belt, is different to knowing you haven't got them a week before the game where you can train together as a unit.
Still, I saw the neddies v wests game where you had your force players, maybe wests are stronger without them. Time will tell!

Anyone tell us what happened at P-B.
I went to have a look at the northern suburbs derby. It was like two different games. Joondalup won the first 20 minutes and scored 31 points. After that Wanneroo decided they needed to be in the game. The Roo Dogs looked to have a lot of changes with injury but the new fullback was very, vey impressive. Comes from Brisbane Wests I was told and was due to play for Brisbane in the NRC this year. Big unit, big boot, hard strong runner and tackler. If they are not looking at him for Spirit then there is something wrong. I saw Prinsloo there but that doesn't mean anyting of course.
Brothers depth is obviously a problem now looking at the lower grades.
Wanneroo might not be firing on the pitch just yet but they are far better than last year and under Gibbo I reckon they are heading in the right direction. Off field things look really good. Had a peek at the new change rooms and gym. They own the lot. The Harmony Day and the one off jumpers were brilliant. Well done.

UWA UPSETS NEDLANDS TO CLAIM SILVERWARE DOUBLE

Pindan Premier Grade – Round 15 – ‘Belt Up’ Round
UWA 20 defeated Nedlands 19 at McGillivray Oval, Mt Claremont
Wests Scarborough 46 defeated Cottesloe 30 at Harvey Field, Cottesloe
Joondalup 34 defeated Wanneroo 21 at Kingsway Reserve, Landsdale
Kalamunda 26 defeated Associates 21 at Allen Park, Swanbourne
Perth Bayswater 13 defeated Palmyra 11 at Tompkins Park, Alfred Cove

UWA upset Nedlands 20-19 in yesterday's Belt Up Match of the Round in the Pindan Premier Grade to claim the Mike Denton Trophy and RugbyWA Cup.

Nedlands, who had previously strung together 13 consecutive victories, led 19-7 at half-time and looked as though they might run away with the game, before UWA – led by flanker and Belt Up Man of the Match Richard Hardwick – scored 13 unanswered second half points to steal the one-point victory.

Hardwick said he was proud of his side’s performance against the competition front-runners.

“We said before the game that it was going to take guts,” he said. “At the beginning they got over us but we regrouped at half time, we refocused and dug deep at the end.

“We just had to trust in ourselves and trust in our plays and patterns, what we’ve trained all season. While we may not have scored as many tries as Neddies today, we were able to put pressure on them and get the points in the end.

“We’re still optimistic about what we can achieve this season. We believe we have a chance and with three big games to finish, all we can do is go out and play our best rugby but we certainly haven’t given up yet.”

UWA opened the scoring against the run of play in the opening minutes when outside centre Ben Taylor intercepted a Nedlands pass on his own 22-metre line to race away and score for an early 7-0 lead.

With both teams throwing everything at each other throughout the high quality encounter, it was Nedlands who scored next when prop Joe Ritchie broke the line from 40 metres out before offloading to Dylan Loversidge to score.

The try sparked the Nedlands machine, who peppered the UWA line and were then denied on three occasions with players held up over the line, before Ritchie again broke through, this time dotting down adjacent to the posts for a 14-7 lead.

The visitors added their third try on the stroke of half-time when quick hands from flyhalf Jesse Toto down the blindside allowed winger Kauri Cudd to cross in the corner for a 19-7 lead at the break.

With the students staring down the barrel of successive losses, Hardwick started the UWA comeback two minutes into the second half with a superb individual try starting on the 40-metre line and brushed through two tackles to score.

UWA winger Levon Kvas-Rothwell, who converted the try, then added a penalty goal to bring his side to within two points at 19-17.

With the game well and truly in the balance, both sides threw everything at the opposition while conceding nothing in defence, until a Hardwick charge with five minutes remaining drew the penalty, and allowed Kvas-Rothwell to knock the ball over for a 20-19 victory.

In yesterday's other results, Perth Bayswater recorded their first win of the season over Palmyra, 13-11; Wests Scarborough defeated Cottesloe 46-30; Kalamunda edged out Associates, 26-21; and Joondalup claimed their local derby over Wanneroo, winning 34-21.

UWA 20 (Richard Hardwick, Ben Taylor tries; Levon Kvas-Rothwell 2 conversions, 2 penalties) defeated Nedlands 19 (Dylan Loversidge, Kauri Cudd, Joe Ritchie tries; Tavita Davis conversion, Kauri Cudd conversions)

Slight exaggeration, Ainsley went off about 20min in, got replaced, Peanut went off at halftime and got replaced,Rangi went to no 8 for a while after Ainsley came back on and went to hooker, replacement prop ended up at blindside after Ainsley went back to tighthead and Rangi went back to hooker so only injury enforced substitution was Peanut and one other prop who didn't last too long at all.
Don't know where the 'at least 2 front row' thing came from but it sounded impressive for those that don't know the truth.
