PINDAN PREMIER GRADE PREVIEW: ROUND 14

Match of the Round - Associates v Palmyra at Allen Park, Swanbourne.

Round 5: Palmyra 14 drew Associates 14 at Tompkins Park, Applecross.

Associates and Palmyra played out the only draw of the season so far when they last met back in Round Five and both sides will be looking to go one better when they lock horns at Allen Park in the Pindan Premier Grade Match of the Round.

‘Soaks’ have dropped three consecutive matches, sliding out of the top four for the first time this season after going down to table-topping Nedlands by 23-points, 47-24, last week. The Swanbourne club sits in fifth-place trailing Cottesloe on points difference and will be intent on turning their form around to lock down a finals spot towards the back end of the season.

Palmyra currently sit in sixth place, just five-points adrift of fourth-placed Cottesloe. With competition for finals places heating up ‘Paly’ can’t afford to drop any games and will be keen to make up for last week’s heartbreaking three point loss to UWA, 15-12, when they take on ‘Soaks’.

Joondalup v Cottesloe at HBF Arena Sportsplex, Joondalup.
Round 5: Joondalup 18 defeated Cottesloe 17 at Harvey Field, Cottesloe.

Joondalup will look to keep themselves in the hunt when they host Cottesloe at HBF Arena Sportsplex.

The Brothers will be keen on bouncing back after back-to-back losses including a 35-point defeat at the hands of second-placed Wests Scarborough last week. The competition’s newest side pulled off a massive upset when they defeated Cottesloe in Round Five and have since proved their worth in their maiden season. The Brothers will look to topple the might of Cottesloe again this weekend.

Cottesloe broke back into the top four last round with a resounding 35-point demolition of Wanneroo, which included a hat-trick to flyhalf Antini Brown. The Gulls have been in fine attacking form in recent weeks, running in 16-tries in their last two outings and will be intent on continuing their attacking flare against Joondalup in an attempt to protect their finals position.

Kalamunda v UWA at Hartfield Park, Forrestfield.
Round 5: UWA 36 defeated Kalamunda 26 at McGillivray Oval, Mount Claremont.

UWA will look to continue their recent charge up the ladder when they travel to Hartfield Park to take on Kalamunda.

‘Kala’ have marked themselves as a genuine contender in 2015 and climbed to third on the ladder after a dominant 51-point thrashing of Perth Bayswater. The Bulls ran in a massive 11 tries in Round 13 to claim their ninth four-try bonus point of the season, including a double to the competition’s leading try scorer Faamanatu Apineru. Currently seven-points clear of the chasing pack, Kalamunda will be determined to book their finals ticket in the coming weeks.

Reigning premiers UWA, are not going quietly in 2015 and are making a strong late season charge towards the four. ‘Uni’ currently sit two wins outside of the top four and with momentum on their side following back-to-back wins are perfectly climbed up the ladder. UWA will be confident in their scrapping ability after grinding out tight wins over Associates and Palmyra in recent weeks.

Perth Bayswater v Nedlands at Pat O'Hara Reserve, Morley.
Round 5: Nedlands 66 defeated Perth Bayswater 13 at The Foreshore, Nedlands.

Nedlands will defend the RugbyWA Cup in enemy territory for the first time when the holders travel to Pat O’Hara Reserve to take on Perth Bayswater.

‘Neddies’ were at their attacking finest yet again in Round 13, running in seven tries to claim a 23-point triumph over Associates. The ladder-leaders have established themselves as the team to beat heading into the back end of the season and will be well aware of the targets on their backs. Michael Ruru had day out last time ‘Neddies’ clashed with ‘Baysie’ scoring four tries and will look for more of the same this weekend.

Perth Bayswater are still searching for their first win of the 2015 Pindan Premier Grade season and will look to bounce back in front of their home fans after suffering a heavy defeat at the hands of Kalamunda last round. ‘Baysie’ went down to Nedlands by 53-points in Round Five but are a much improved side since their last meeting and will look to show that this weekend.

Wests Scarborough v Wanneroo at Bennett Park, Doubleview.
Round 5: West Scarborough 32 defeated Wanneroo 21 at Kingsway Reserve, Madeley.

Wests Scarborough will look to pressure table-topping Nedlands when they take on ninth-placed Wanneroo at Bennett Park.

West Scarborough bounced back from their first loss of 2015 with an emphatic 42-17 victory over Joondalup. Wests tallied six tries in the victory to notch up their seventh four-try bonus point of the season. The Boars will look to put on another attacking master-class with bonus points likely to be the difference between first and second come season’s end.

Wanneroo will be focused on strengthening their defence when they travel to Bennett Park to take on Wests. The Roodogs leaked 43-points in their loss to Cottesloe last round and will be intent on regaining the defensive intensity that saw them overcome Associates just a few weeks ago.

Last week for your teams contracted WF players. Some clubs are going to find it tough going as they have relied heavily on these players during previous rounds. Tough shit!
Soaks -Paly. Soaks were so bad last week I'm picking Paly to win in a close one.
Joondalup - Cottesloe. Cott, Joondalups lack of depth starting to show.
Kalamunda - Uni. Kalamunda to win, their backs will win it for them.
Perth Bayswater - Nedlands. Sad news this week about Carlos. Nedlands to win in a canter.
Wests - Wanneroo. Wests too strong, Wanneroo would be wishing this game was played next week.
