Match of the Round: Wests Scarborough (1) v Cottesloe (3) at Bennett Park, Scarborough
A possible preview of finals action lands at Bennett Park this Saturday when the top-placed Wests Scarborough clashes with third-placed Cottesloe in the Pindan Premier Grade Match of the Round.

The Boars have had a flawless start to their 2015 campaign, returning four bonus point victories from their five wins, including last weekend’s 32-21 triumph over Wanneroo.

Having already edged out Nedlands, 26-19, in their opening round win, Wests Scarborough will face the remaining two top four sides – Cottesloe and Associates – in the next two rounds.

‘Wests’ have been boosted by the return of flanker Kane Koteka from his Western Force duties, while fellow Force recruit Brad Lacey has found his way to the line recently, bagging a double against the Roodogs last weekend.

Cottesloe suffered their first defeat of the season last weekend, when upset 18-17 by newcomers Joondalup at Harvey Field.

Up to that point, the Gulls had managed three bonus point victories, with their miserly defence only conceding 54 points in the opening five rounds – the best record in the competition.

Cottesloe has also benefited from the Western Force bye, with Ross Haylett-Petty and speedster Mitch Scott also returning from Super Rugby representation.

Wests Scarborough: 1. Chris Kidd, 2. Conan Houkamau, 3. Dylan Crawford, 4. Tom O’Day, 5. Rory Walton, 6. Kane Koteka, 7. Keith Andrews, 8. Pierre Roberts, 9. Angus Taylor, 10. AJ Alatimu, 11. Saula Fifita, 12. Marty Campbell, 13. Sheldon Tarawa, 14. Brad Lacey, 15. Albert Nikoro.

Joondalup (5) v Wanneroo (9) at HBF Arena Joondalup, Joondalup
No love will be lost when these neighbours square off for the first time in the Pindan Premier Grade at HBF Arena Joondalup.

Joondalup has made a strong fist of their first year in the top grade and currently sit just three points adrift of the competition’s top four.

The Brothers will be riding high after last weekend’s 18-17 win over Cottesloe, that included 13 points through powerful scrumhalf Johann Louw.

Wanneroo are still chasing their first win of the season, however, their two most recent results suggest that may not be too far away.

The Roodogs pushed Cottesloe in their 32-14 loss a fortnight ago, before going even closer against the top-of-the-table Wests Scarborough, 32-21, last weekend, which featured two tries to flanker Benjamin Stimson.

Joondalup: 1.Tristan Schneider, 2. Liewellyn Lottering, 3. Laione Mulikihaamea, 4. Coner McDougall, 5. Ryan Williams, 6. Tamati Timoko, 7. Adam Wallis, 8. Mark Jackson, 9. Johann Louw, 10. Tamati Young, 11. Michael Connolly, 12. James Wepener, 13. Maalonga Konelio, 14. Ellis Caveill, 15. Lui Guivalu.
Wanneroo: 1. Goliath Nikora, 2. Scott Cornell, 3. Andre Roux, 4. Michael Bailey, 5. Timothy Iro, 6. Sylvo Iro, 7. Benjamin Stimson, 8. Nathan Iro, 9. Bryce Watkins, 10. Timothy Koiatu, 11. Jarred Rees, 12. Andrew King, 13. Cerri Cummings, 14. Michael Wilson, 15. Kohei Kawaguchi.

Nedlands (2) v UWA (7) at The Foreshore, Nedlands
Last year’s minor premiers, Nedlands, and 2014 champions, UWA, will squad off at The Foreshore on Saturday.

‘Neddies’ were ruthless in putting Perth Bayswater to the sword last weekend, 66-13, with scrumhalf Michael Ruru continuing the form that led him to the competition’s top try scorer last season, with four against the Numbats.

The home side is starting to hit ominous form, having recorded bonus victories in each of their last three outings.

Meanwhile, the students will be chasing their third successive victory after a slow start to the competition.

UWA successfully defended the RugbyWA Cup against Kalamunda last weekend (36-26) with perennial try scorer, Christian Joubert, crossing for a double, while Levon Kvas-Rothwell was again sharp from the kicking tee with a 21-point haul.

UWA has been bolstered by the return of Future Force hooker Harry Scoble (ankle) from injury.

Nedlands: 1. Joseph Ritchie, 2. Anaru Rangi, 3. Jermaine Ainsley, 4. Scott Stevens, 5. Michael Egan, 6. Andries Van Der Westhuizen, 7. Shane Hemi, 8. Tevin Ferris, 9. Michael Ruru, 10. Kris Setu, 11. Clay Uyen, 12. Mike Beattie, 13. Ben Taylor, 14. Levon Kvas-Rothwell, 15. Christian Joubert.

Perth Bayswater (10) v Palmyra (6) at Pat O’Hara Reserve, Morley
Palmyra will have an eye on climbing into the competition’s top four when they travel to Morley to take on Perth Bayswater.

‘Pally’ was forced to share the points with Associates last weekend on the back of a 14-all draw, and will be looking for their first win in three outings.

Flyhalf Jonny Alston has been in good touch for the riverside club, not least of which his contribution of 48 points across his first four matches.

Perth Bayswater will be looking to stem the flow of points against them when they return home following last weekend’s 66-13 loss to Nedlands.

With the side having conceded 305 points this season, the Numbats will be determined for a better showing this weekend in an effort to pull themselves off the bottom of the Pindan Premier Grade ladder.

Perth Bayswater: 1. Neil Boland, 2. Chris Temple, 3. Adam Grant, 4. Ngaruhe Jones, 5. Jock Stanley, 6. Douglas Grey-Hull, 7. Jake Buist, 8. James Ellaschewsky, 9. Troy Mete, 10. Dylan Timu, 11. Zubayr Abrahams, 12. Kolia Konelio, 13. Wade Bryant, 14. Jesse Sheck, 15. Wayne Thompson.

Kalamunda (8) v Associates (4) at Hartfield Park, Forrestfield
Kalamunda will be chasing a much-needed victory against Associates at Hartfield Park on Saturday, or risk losing touch with the competition’s top four.

The Bulls were squeezed out by UWA last week, 36-26, despite centre Faamanatu Apineru continuing on from his seven-try haul against Perth Bayswater the week prior, with another against the students.

After three early victories, Associates will also be chasing a return to the winners circle, after a loss to Nedlands and last weekend’s 14-all draw with Palmyra.

Soaks, who now sit on the precipice of the competition’s top four, will against look to the Perth Spirit combination of No.8 Al Rovira, and halves Justin Turner and Zack Holmes to lead the way on Saturday.

Kalamunda: 1. Aaron Minnet, 2. Mark Royal, 3. Roy Kuka, 4. Matthew Dessauvagie, 5. Nikau Rangiwhetu (c), 6. Russell Burgess (c), 7. Auega Seumanutafa, 8. Leo Auvaa, 9. Aaron Murphy, 10. Preston Elama, 11. Faamanatu Apineru, 12. Tama Makamaka, 13. Daley Harper, 14. Ryan Black, 15. Iziah Malcolm.

    Wests v Cott
Wests will be hoping that soft underbelly the tight 5 doesn't rear it's ugly head yet again on Sat. A lot of injuries and unavailability means the Boars will struggle, the Seagulls, a quality coached squad steeped in tradition and perennial finalists will be looking to massacre the impostors from Bennet Park.
    Tip Wests by 3-5 plus
    Bros v Dogs
A very close encounter with no fiddle playing deliverance sounds tomorrow. The Dogs are quite, well dogged and are close to a breakout win.
Gibbo deserves a result for all the hard work he has put in and I think it will finally all come together for a closely fought result.
Surely the young whipper snappers can't keep it going.
    Tip Dogs by 2
    Neddies v Scarfies
Neddies are a tough ask for the pouncy studious types. The scarfies midfield will get torn a new one with Davis Tavita to score a brace. Our mate on the wing with sexual identity issues will get a right royal[blue]rogering by the likes of crusty bad heads like Peanut.
Neddies will be disappointed that club stalwart Force halfback Ian Prior wont be adding to his impressive club tally due to suspension.[yeah right]
Heard Paddy Dellit doesn't want to play club rugby anymore and if I was married to his cook I would have better things to do than play rugby as well.
    Tip Neddies by 12
    Baysie v Paly
I will stick my neck out and tip Paly on this one. Baysie are doing it tough but will hang tough.
Interesting to see Lewis Flood at 2nd 5 for Paly. Had him in colts a while back, great lad with a bloody great team attitude, at least getting club fees out of this one won't be a problem.
    Tip Paly by a shitload
    Bulls v Soaks
After the player revolt where 6 players threatened to walk this week will either galvanise or destroy the Bulls.
Soaks are quietly going about their business and trying to fly under the radar.
Predict at least 3 Kala players to get yellows and one to cop a red as they look to basically beat the crap out of Soaks.
Hartfield Park on a windy and wet Saturday arvo against a team fighting for finals survival, couldn't think of anything worse.

Wests Scarborough 1st Grade juggernaut has played finals rugby each and every year since its inception and continues this remarkable feat yet again this season and unbelievably it's still rolling on and as an added little circle jerk for the masses Wests actually hold the record for the current longest unbroken finals record.

Have heard the Prior suspension sham when he has never ever been cleared to play club rugby is to be further investigated.
Also heard Paddy Dellit even though fit and cleared to play no longer wants to play club rugby.
Am only expanding on my post last night to enlighten those that obviously aren't as well informed as my good self.
No wonder Dogga has now got rid of all allocated Force players.
Interesting times ahead for Rugby WA, stay tuned folks, this will have repercussions.

Westies Man I find it rather humourous you comment continuously on another mans shorts and in the same breath comment about his supposed sexual identity issues...although that overwhelming focus is understandable when, alongside a cohesive team effort against quality opposition, those shorts knocked you lads out on the bell in the Semis.

From a more positive rugby-based perspective on things that actually matter, I will say your passion for local rugby is undoubted and should be applauded. You boys are travelling extremely well as of late...although we both know that doesnt count for much come finals time

    By Luke Worthington

An Rory Walton try in injury time has seen Wests Scarborough continue their undefeated start to the 2015 season, on the back of a 20-13 win over Cottesloe at Bennett Park on Saturday.

A courageous comeback by the Boars saw the home side fight back in the wet weather and tie the scores in the 70th minute before Walton scored in the 82nd minute, with final whistle blowing after flyhalf AJ Alatimu kicked the conversion.

Wests coach Dwayne Grace said they knew it would take an 80-minute battle against such a quality side.

“It was always going to be tough in these conditions and it was just who looked after the ball the most,” he said.

“’Cott’ is a very well-coached team and we knew it was going to take the 80 – or 82 minutes – which it was in the end.

“He [Rory Walton] has scored every week over the past few weeks, so he will be happy with himself.”

The game started out very territory-based, with both sides kicking the ball at every opportunity, establishing the tempo of the game in the early minutes.

Wests started strong, disrupting most of the Cottesloe attack, but a quick chip over the top of the play by the ‘Gulls’ caught the Wests defence off guard. Flyhalf Kelvin Smith picked the ball up unmarked around mid-field and raced over for the opening try and a 5-0 lead.

Cottesloe scrumhalf Charl Nieuwenhuis later kicked a penalty goal from the halfway mark, to put his side up 8-0.

AJ Alatimu was able to put the first points on the board for Wests, kicking a penalty goal to put the score at 8-3 going into halftime.

AJ Alatimu kicked his second penalty goal of the day from directly in front, after Cottesloe were caught not rolling away at the breakdown. This opened the second half scoring, putting the score at 8-6.

Powerful Cottesloe second-rower Damien Carley was able to increase his side’s lead, busting a tackle to cross the line after multiple phases in Wests territory. The try went unconverted to give his side a 13-6 lead.

Only seconds after the Cottesloe try was scored, Wests flanker Keith Andrews crossed the line on the back of a rolling maul after they turned the ball over on the kick off. This knotted the score up at 13 apiece after AJ Alatimu converted the try.

Wests Scarborough continued their dominant display of running rugby into the second half, but were constantly denied by unforced errors in the wet weather, at one point denying their backs a chance at converting on a one-man overlap.

However, it was Walton who was able to cross the line in the 82nd minute of the match, after multiple phases and minutes of backing Cottesloe up against their own line, finding open space and a five-man overlap to secure the win for the home side.

In yesterday’s other results, Wanneroo upset Joondalup 17-13; Nedlands continued their winning streak with a 29-10 victory over UWA; Kalamunda edged out Associates, 15-14; and Palmyra was too strong for Perth Bayswater winning 30-7.

Wests Scarborough 20 (Keith Andrews, Rory Walton tries; AJ Alatimu 2 conversions; AJ Alatimu 2 penalty goals) defeated Cottesloe 13 (Kelvin Smith, Damien Carly tries; Charl Nieuwenhuis penalty goal).

Fair call so I'll move on. Will still give him a bit of cheek when we play you guys and he'll give it straight back, he seems like a bit of a character and the thing is he can back it.
We are travelling alright but have just fallen over the line in a few of the games, pretty tight comp this season.
