You'd love to get out to the mungos every weekend. "Charlie" is nothing new to mungos.Matty Seers liked his lines. Matty Johns liked his eccies and didnt mind a bit of blow. Smokin Joe Kilroy got bang3d up in Boggo Road. Mungos is great for scandal

Maybe a few games a year, for sure. But you're right. Scandal is killing the game. It's been doing that for most of my 62 years. From Chook snotting a hotel security man, while wearing nought but a bowler right thru to this lot. Go figure. Dead set!

On a side note; innit great to see a true hard bastard like Tommy Lawton getting his mug on Fox Sports. GIGS - you must be in man love after his Mungo diatribe on Rugby HQ this week.

I actually don't agree with the years to learn the nuances stuff that Lawton was spouting. I just get pissed off when the ARU will give a top up to a guy who's not played a day of super rugby but won't give one to a long term player who has played for the Wallabies and is the captain.

The one good thing that will come out of this whole sorry state of affairs is that the ARU will maybe start looking from within. As I have stated previous there are 250 000 registered players available so if they can get their shit together and develop programmes that can identify and produce future players with the attitude to succeed and be role models for our kids then they will soon reap the benefits. Throwing a shit of load of dough at has been mungoes is as they will eventually work out is not the best option.

Wests Scarborough 1st Grade juggernaut has played finals rugby each and every year since its inception and continues this remarkable feat yet again this season and unbelievably it's still rolling on and as an added little circle jerk for the masses Wests actually hold the record for the current longest unbroken finals record.

Queensland Reds consider allowing Karmichael Hunt to return to playing and training duties

    Iain Payten
    The Daily Telegraph
    February 22, 2015 10:00PM

THE Reds remain undecided whether Karmichael Hunt will return to action this week but their inclination to let the troubled recruit play prior to his court date next week could put the QRU on a collision course with the ARU.

Hunt was stood down last Friday after being served with a notice to appear in a Gold Coast court on March 5 on four charges of allegedly supplying cocaine.

NRL players from the Titans, Greg Bird, David Taylor, Kalifa Faifai Loa, Beau Falloon and Jamie Dowling, and former squad member Joe Vickery, have also been charged in relation to the scandal.

The Titans don’t kick off their season until March 7, but Gold Coast chief executive Graham Annesley said the players had been stood down from all playing and training responsibilities pending their appearance in court on March 9.

The Reds have a Super Rugby game against the Highlanders on Friday night, and rugby powerbrokers were yesterday debating whether Hunt will stay sidelined or be free to return to the Reds team.

The Reds and RUPA appear keen to allow Hunt to play in Dunedin, arguing principles of natural justice and the mitigating fact that Hunt’s alleged cocaine crimes were committed in a five-week period last year while he was still under contract to the Gold Coast Suns AFL team.

The Reds looked to be preparing the groundwork for Hunt’s return last week when they pointed out the fine print of his QCCC bust in a press release, saying he hadn’t been formally charged or arrested, only given a notice to appear.

It is a technicality — he’ll be charged prior to facing court on March 5 — but the QRU and RUPA see it as a relevant legal distinction when it comes to grounds for a continued suspension. Namely, he is not only innocent until proven guilty but he hasn’t even been charged yet.

The ARU, however, want Hunt to stay on the sidelines until he fronts court next Thursday; wary of damage to the game’s public image if Hunt is cleared to play with such serious charges hanging over his head.

Comparisons to the two suspended NRL players would no doubt be a factor to a code struggling to navigate the unchartered waters of a serious behaviour issue that occurred in another code but still invites judgment on rugby’s reaction.

Just who would have final say in the event of a standoff between the ARU and QRU remains unclear. Queensland fronted most of the cash for Hunt’s $500,000-plus contract but the ARU also chipped in, and ultimately in a tri-party agreement, the national body would presumably hold sway.

Due process is hugely important to RUPA but the ARU’s summary suspension of James O’Connor in 2013 two days after being escorted out of Perth airport intoxicated may serve as some precedence.

It has been speculated Hunt could face a lengthy ban — even for life — as prescribed by WADA and ASADA if found guilty of supplying cocaine, which is on the banned list as a stimulant.

But it understood WADA and ASADA will likely have no involvement in the Hunt matter, given cocaine only falls into their domain if it is detected by a game day drug test, as with the Wendell Sailor case. Outside of competition, cocaine is deemed a “recreational drug” and is dealt with under individual codes illicit drugs policies.

Questions about whether the AFL will play any role in future sanctions are seemingly moot, therefore, and it is believed the code has no intention of involving itself in the Hunt case.

Reds won't select Hunt this week

    Vince Rugari
    February 23, 2015, 10:36 am

The Queensland Reds say they won't select controversial star Karmichael Hunt for their next Super Rugby game on Friday night against the Highlanders.

Queensland Rugby Union chief executive Jim Carmichael said on Monday it was in the best interests of Hunt's welfare that he be excluded from the team ahead of his Gold Coast court date next week, when he will face four counts of supplying drugs.

Reds won't select Hunt this week

But Hunt could yet be allowed to train with the Reds during that time, with coach Richard Graham to provide further clarity on the code-hopping star recruit's status at a media conference later on Monday.

Hunt was initially stood down only for last Saturday's win over the Western Force after news of his impending charges broke a day earlier.

"As this highly complicated matter is due before the courts and is part of a wider and ongoing investigation by the Queensland Crime and Corruption Commission, we will continue not to prejudice the player's legal or contractual rights and we will apply the principles of natural justice," said Carmichael in a statement.

"Notwithstanding our responsibilities to our members, fans and wider rugby stakeholders - and although Karmichael was not contracted to rugby during the period in question - the QRU strongly believes it has a duty of care to its employees.

"As such, we will continue to provide Karmichael with the required organisational support.

"The playing group is aware of the organisation's position and is entirely focused on preparing for an important Super Rugby game against the Highlanders in Dunedin this Friday, following our win over the Western Force on Saturday."

Sports star Karmichael Hunt and two of five Gold Coast Titans players to appear in court

    Jeremy Pierce
    The Courier-Mail
    March 05, 2015 9:04AM

QUEENSLAND Reds vice-captain Karmichael Hunt is set to plead guilty to drug charges.

The code-hopping superstar was facing four counts of supplying cocaine which allegedly occurred between his AFL tenure at the Gold Coast Suns and joining the Reds squad late last year.

Hunt’s brief mention in court 1 at Southport Magistrates Court was adjourned to court 9 later this morning.

Hunt arrived for his court appearance with solicitor Angelo Venardos.

Dodging the media scrum in a suit and sunglasses, Hunt made his way from a carpark stairwell, across the road and into the courthouse 15 minutes after court officially commenced for the day.

It is understood the former NRL and AFL star will plead guilty to downgraded charges.

The case has been set down for a lengthy plea.

Hunt is one of three footballers facing court today over the cocaine scandal which has rocked Queensland sport.

Gold Coast Titans players Beau Falloon and Jamie Dowling also appeared. Their cases were adjourned until May 8.

A spokesman for the Queensland Reds said Hunt was expected to make a statement following his court appearance this morning.

Falloon is facing four counts of supplying a dangerous drug.

His 22-year-old girlfriend Elise Abood has been charged with two counts of supplying a dangerous drug but was not with the player when he arrived.

Jamie Dowling faces seven charges of possessing a dangerous drug and two counts of supply.

Fellow Titans Greg Bird, Dave Taylor and Kalifa Faifai Loa are expected to face court on Monday along with former teammates Ashley Harrison and Joe Vickery.

The CCC has also issued an arrest warrant for former Titan Steve Michaels, who is currently playing in England’s Super League competition.

Guilty to possession. No word on the supply charges at the moment. They're being done separately
    -----

Edit: $2500 fine and no conviction for possession. Supply charges dismissed

A slap on the wrist and he is a good boy again, no penalty from any of the codes and yet he dragged the good name of all three of through shit, internationally I might add, as a course of his own actions.

What's bet he is free to play on the weekend as well.

Of course he'll be cleared to play. KB's list of misdemeanours is far longer and yet he's as free as a bird! This game has no scruples anymore, just a massive thirst for money.

    No, I am wrong.

ARU have fined him $30,000 and he is suspended for six weeks and stripped of Vice Captaincy. Back available in Round 8.

As WJ tweeted earlier, his court fine is equal to $2 for every $1 worth of Charlie he purchased.
