Foley honoured but sticks to Force

    Nick Taylor
    October 23, 2014, 9:16 am

It was a bolt out of the blue but Western Force mentor Michael Foley said he was honoured to be asked to return to the Wallabies coaching team.
But felt he could not do justice to the Force if he joined the northern hemisphere tour which starts next week.
However, he has not ruled out helping with the national side in the future. Foley was asked by new coach Michael Cheika on Monday if he would join his support staff as forwards coach - a role he held from 2006-2008.
He slept on the offer but decided to turn it down.
"I felt I had to do the right thing by the club," Foley said.
"To be asked to represent Australia was a massive honour and it had great appeal, particularly working on a significant project.
"My role as head coach at the Force requires me to be here and I didn't feel I could do justice to the staff and players by not being here.
"When I spoke to Michael we discussed that I could maybe help down the track as long it didn't impact on the Force.
"The challenge at the Force is something I love and I don't want to feel that I haven't given it everything it deserves."

Ah well good on him I suppose, but I would have liked him to get in there. Anyway, maybe Cheika will note that Hodgo is in his squad and get some input from him?

Sorry Chibi, we need him here. He needs to finish what he started.

One decent season doesn't make a successful team.... we need to consolidate all the hard work we did in 2014 from the first minute of the first game of 2015

Well to be honest, I was thinking along the lines of, if Cheika can do two jobs, so could Foley. I think he has the ability to remain our coach, and at the same time assist the Wallaby forwards.

Yes I'm sure he turned it down purely to send Cheika a message

Good stuff Foley. I can't wait for next season. I can finally look forward to a new season with genuine hope rather than the false blue tinged hopes of previous years...

Also it could be a smart move by Foles. If/when Cheika fails and if Foley can string some good seasons at the force he will be in line for the main gig in the future.

If Foley's smart, he'll wait for the total cleanout of all the ARU High Performance structures and a completely new and untainted structure before even considering the Wallabies gig.

That might have already happened since Cheika had them well and truly by the short hairs and should have been smart enough to see the problems from where he sat (let's face it WE all see the problems and we sit a lot further away from him) The only possible fly in that ointment is Cheika's towering arrogance, which may have him thinking that he is man enough to change the structures from within.......

Cheika told the NSWRU to get stuffed and let him run the show, can't see the ARU pissing in his pond.

As evidenced in the article in the SMH on Wednesday (posted on this website)
