    I'm in.

More Premier Grade teams the better. They may take their time establishing, but just like the Force this year, they'll grt there.

All clubs have to start somewhere

Why on earth would an odd number in a league work ... make it a 10 team table w/ a home/away round so loadsa games, loadsa ref's needed, bar revenue all round. Then you need promotion, relegation from the 10 to make it competitive ... ! Make it a competition with consequences & get rugby noticed in a state where the other sports (RL & Football ... proper football) are increasing in participation numbers.

Raise the profile, appoint a press officer & schools liaison in every club, get sponsorship with the increasing exposure & pay something towards some development officers at RWA instead of just two & tell the ARU to start forking out for a state with it's house in order.

Just a thought or two ...

Wests Scarborough 1st Grade juggernaut has played finals rugby each and every year since its inception and continues this remarkable feat yet again this season and unbelievably it's still rolling on and as an added little circle jerk for the masses Wests actually hold the record for the current longest unbroken finals record.

Unless they are able to stand on their own two feet, yes. If they can't get together and sort something out they will next season be playing each other again very regularly. They can't have it all ways. No disrespect to those clubs at all but we simply can't afford to have another season like this one

Westie - I agree with you in principle but there is a hell of a geographic distance between Armadale and Curtin as well as some old school rivalry - Let the clubs play off for this "last spot" winner goes in and the loser plays off again next year. However the grand plan you are touting has my support.

This is completely preposterous. Both Arks & Curtin are viable clubs that hold their own in a Premiership ... meaning location, facilities, catchment area, potential sponsors ... not just on field performance.

The topic of the thread is 'mid season review' & the number of clubs struggling with lower graded teams is more of a cause for action than basing everything on a Premiership set up.

What should be more readily available is the proposals for next season from RugbyWA as this year is supposedly a transition to a more competitive landscape within WA rugby.

The second half of the season is simply more of the same, so what gives for next year ... ?

    What don't some people understand.
This year's Premier Grade standard is one of the worst in many years. Why? Because there are not enough players who are of quality to go round. So, what shall we do? Lets add more teams to Premier Grade and spread the players even thinner.
Now that's a brilliant idea. Bloody slow learners out there.

Maybe it's a little like the VFL idea of graciously allowing WA and SA into the comp in order to pay the bills and resurrect a dying comp?.

I agree the standard does seem to have dropped off a bit but that's why you have a top 6 bottom 6 because again I'll spell it out for you these club's in question will next season be playing in a comp very similar to last season.
They should be given an opportunity to either foot it with the big boy's or fade back into district comp because again all Ist grade clubs can not take the hit they have had this season if they are to remain viable.
    What don't you understand.

    ?
Completely agree, obviously a strong Premiership means a pathway to the force etc...

However, the goal right now should be player numbers and growing the player base and exposure here in WA. Reducing the number of clubs in my opinion would be a step backwards.

Merging clubs or telling them they can't play on an even field sends a message that Rugby is still stuck in an age when only privileged people can play. Consequently players are being haemorrhaged to other sports/apathy.

You sound like one of the rugbywa employees that I know who is using growth of the game and the player base in WA for the reason why they are continiously making stupid desisions
