so in 20 years time, when WA have a 55,000 seat stadium we might get an origin match which will attract 80,000 spectators....on an oval pitch, with shit seating.

and still won't get a Bledisloe Cup match, even as a dead rubber.

I really that Origin should never go outside NSW and QLD unless it's for a mega crowd. Docklands is frivolous as an origin venue, as is Eden Park. At the moment, the only place I would think of for Origin outside of the home States would be the MCG, and that would be only if they could guarantee upwards of 82,000, otherwise I can't see the point of it. If NZ had an 80-85k ground one day, that might work.

It's a shame a city the size of Brisbane doesn't have a bigger capacity ground for events like this actually, but then I don't know how often that size would be utilised outside of Origin.

That argument is thrown around a fair bit around this time each year.
The interesting thing is that the ground record for suncorp was actually set at the lions v wallabies game last year. Not origin.
I think the reds final has beaten origin crowds as well. Would have to check those numbers to be sure though. The roar grand final had over 50k people there the other week as well.
Suncorp is about as big as it should be for the time being. And with the way it has been done now they can't really redevelop it without scrapping the roof sections.
There is also the freeway there which can't be moved and the train lines + residential.
So it won't be getting made bigger anytime soon.

Not sure if it's still the case, but sometime in the early years of Wallaby Tests @ Subi, they set a new crowd record. I vaguely remember the AFL mob trying to better that. (Would have pissed them off big time )

Yeah it's been beaten since - I think the ground capacity was slightly increased in some way.

The squad warmed up with a game of football at Coogee Oval and Folau admitted a rendezvous with the NSW Origin team at Sydney Airport on Sunday had put him in a reflective mood.

"I do miss it a little bit, to be honest, but, in saying that, I'm pretty grateful that I've been there before and I'm enjoying being where I am right now in my career," he said, joking that he was struggling to find a ticket to the ANZ Stadium clash.

"If I can get some tickets, I'll try to go to the game – I think the boys forgot about me – but hopefully it will be a good game. Otherwise I'll be here watching it at the hotel with the [Wallabies] boys."
I know Izzy's been to more places than Lucky Starr but I think someone forgot to tell him that "the boys" haven't forgotten him. They just don't remember him in the team. Also they probably have not forgotten that he is from Minto. And just like Fiji, Bowraville, New Zealand etc; Minto can't been moved back from Queensland just for him.

His powder blue jerseys are for Rugby only. So - no tickets Rah-Rah. They're for Family and mates.

Still, after that article, you can expect a few complimentaries to be slipped under his door and Channel 9 to be directed to feature him and a few other Wallabies in the stands on Wednesday night.

    One more sleep. Blues 13+
