No I wasn't but 3 games in a row done and dusted by 12 pm, what a good idea, so those that are actively involved in their respective senior clubs can go and support their clubs instead of being down at Brittania till 2pm.
One of the reasons I was given is that parents in the older age group know approx what time little Johnny is playing so they can plan their day around it.

Wests Scarborough 1st Grade juggernaut has played finals rugby each and every year since its inception and continues this remarkable feat yet again this season and unbelievably it's still rolling on and as an added little circle jerk for the masses Wests actually hold the record for the current longest unbroken finals record.

Now is not the time to be hanging shit on each other as Fulvio quite rightly pointed out, in jest or otherwise. It makes us look like feral whingers when our agenda is the betterment of club rugby.

yes, a good idea, but not the reality, the last game kicks off about 12, no time to get to Britannia for anybody playing it. There were several players in the earlier games who were able to maintain a commitment to their club, but that generally evaporated when they hit year 12. I have no idea how many returned to club footy after year 12

Watched them in reserve grade last week against Joondalup. They still seem to have a reasonable amount of talent in them.

Also heard they have pulled out of Champ As this weekend?

    Champ A = 3rd grade? From what I've heard that's the case.

be interested to go back to the original logic as to why they changed things to the mess that is presently .are smaller participation based clubs running the rest of rugby by wanting to play everyone in town? are we accommodating the few to affect the many ?

true western suburbs clubs are dying a bit at junior level whilst outer lying clubs have good numbers still and volunteers are stretched to maximum capacity

the few club rounds i have been at crowd numbers are defintely down hence the reduction in bar trade for sure even if the home club has all grades at home when your hosting up to 3 or 4 other clubs they play then go it dilutes the atmosphere , the bar trade and what club rugby is about and that is playing , socialising and watching first grade . this constant merry go round isn't helping .

hansie : what review processes will be put in place BEFORE the season finishes to ensure the problem is saved?

Early last year we had a scenario of 4 Championship clubs in the Championship category. Some of whom are located in the fastest growth areas for our sport potentially playing each other 4 times and then meeting in a final series. So RugbyWA took the initiative of consulting with all stakeholders in our community group - Premiergrade Clubs, Referees, Championship clubs and the Judiciary. delegates from all were invited to take part in Future Search.

To cut a long story short - a model that was propsed by a member of the group received the most support. That would integrate the Championship Clubs, accommodate areas of growth, create a large base from which to create a pathway - ultimately to the Force - . A 3 tier comp with possibility over time to grow to 14 clubs was adopted by the community.

At a heads of clubs meeting, the plan was proposed as well as a pathway via a 10/18 growing to a 12/18 on the way was outlined. There was debate about the fact of trying to have all teams play at home games, plus many other ideas were canvassed.

The fixtures were then sent into turmoil with Rocky Pulling out and the NRC being announced.

Joondalup are very keen to enter premiergrade and need to be encouraged to do so. trying to accommodate everyone is hard and monthly the progress of the comp is discussed.

The people at RugbyWA are doing their absolute best to grow the competition and grow the skill levels. No question I and others have made mistakes, we'll learn and correct them.

I have taken time on Thursday evenings to travel to Joondalup, Perth Bayswater and Pally so far, to visit and listen to their members. I will visit other clubs. I think I would get more out of it on Thursday evenings rather than Saturdays.

The ultimate aim is to grow a strong, vibrant and skillfull competition. It will take longer with some negativity in the group, but Rugby in WA will grow and we will eventually have a professional team of home grown talent.

If you believe that shit you are delusional, you guys that make these decisions are driving people away from the game and are absolutely slaughtering the clubs with bullshit 'This is how we do it over East' mentality .I hope some common sense prevails, you guys actually show some humility and admit you were wrong and attempt to fix it, however I think the damage that has been done is irreversible.
I vowed I would never become one of those negative whingers but with the decisions that are made by people with no idea whatsoever it is very easy to become one.
Fact, player numbers are down by a huge amount and that came from a very reliable source, that's not growing the game ,although someone somewhere has to bullshit to meet Kpi's

    Westies Man,
everything in WA is down at the moment apart from a demand for brickies and I think that is having an impact on everyone including rugby clubs. It worries me that for the last 5 years we have relied on players from overseas to bolster our club playing stocks rather than 18's 19's and 20's turning into good club men and staying playing into their late 20,s and thirtys

Dear oh dear Hansie. Take off the rose tinted glasses.
Don't you realise that the game is not growing nor will it grow under the current system.
Numbers of clubs will grow because you have no willpower to say NO. The standard will continue to drop as you allow more clubs to enter and then let them attempt to get into the Premiership Grade.
This was, and I will repeat myself over again, predicted some 15-20 years ago when clubs started to breakaway and forms new clubs and the then Board and subsequent boards have been gutless and unwilling to say NO.
Look at the Sydney and Brisbane comp. A set number of Premier Grades and that's it. The rest are subbies etc. That is the only way to maintain a decent standard of rugby in this state.
Standards are already down. Bite the bullet and make the hard decisions.

I am reluctant to comment in a Metro Rugby thread as I am "unqualified", but I do know that the Queensland (read - Originally the Brisbane Comp has evolved over the years.

I played for Maroochydore, a small team on the Sunshine Coast that started in the Brisbane subbies and all the other teams initially hated the 1 hour trip up the coast to play us.

Over the years more teams started on the coast and eventually a combined team Sunshine Coast Rays competed in the Premier grade.

Other teams have come and gone, Teachers, Gold Coast, etc etc.

    Its all about evolution.
