I quite like Andrew Lees' refereeing style. Hopefully he will have a good match, with rugby as the clear winner at the end of the day

We just need no game-changing cock up by Sir so we can focus on the game.

Gus Gardner is, I am told, considered one of the Next Big Things by the powers that be in Aus rugby. He will be receiving all kinds of coaching/counselling in order to continually improve his game and, therefore, position in the pecking order. As long as he takes it all in and improves game by game, that's all right by me.

Gus Gardner is certainly not the "Next Big Thing" as far as this Force fan is concerned.
My suggestion to the ARU is keep Angus busy at Shute Shield/Club Rugby level.

Gus has reffed a total of 9 Super XV games and 5 of these (more than half) have been Force games. (Amazingly we have won 3 of these)
    (Rebels 3, Reds 2, Waratahs 2 and Brumbies 1)

And the game against the Bulls will make it 6 from 10!!!

Gus is a shocker and seems particularly bent against the Force.

In 2013 his only 4 games were Force games (Rebs, Reds, Brumbies and Waratahs)
Gus' efforts in the 23:30 loss to the Rebels was abysmal.

Gus' efforts always appear to take a position against a couple of practices of the Force and harp on them throughout the game.
His interpretations are very often wrong/incorrect e.g. Matt Hodgson query re the ball carrier having to release the ball once the tackling player (usually Hodgo) has his hands on the ball. "But Matt you also have to survive the cleanouts". What absolute rubbish!!!

My observation is that Angus does everything in his power to bring the Force's opposition back into the game.
He certainly does his best to frustrate our team.

The ARU has advised that the teams higher up the table get the better refs....(As the numbers above seem to support)

The Force is 5th on the table...Why does our team have to tolerate an obvious incompetent with a bias against the Force???

PS. I'm not usually a ref "knocker" and believe they generally get it right. However, with Gus you just know that we're in for a bad day!

Andrewg, the requirement to survive the cleanout has been with us for two seasons now.

Unless completely isolated and no immediate (<1sec) support then the Jackler must get hands on ball and survive the cleanout in order to win a penalty kick.

Sometimes the ball carrier releases, so he gets it, other times the support is good enough to clean the jackler off the ball, which means they have secured the possession. This is known as 'letting it breathe" to referees.

Whether or not you agree to that is irrelevant, that is the way it is refereed, and is quite consistent across all super rugby.

Whilst there is frustration at the first half penalties given by Gus, on review of the TV after, I had no problems with any of them. In all, he actually had a good game, including the correct call that he was happy with an apparent dangerous tackle by the Force that was highlighted by the TMO, and ruling correctly on the groundings of Nick's tries.

Whilst he may not be your cup of tea, there is certainly no evidence that he is biased, and most teams that have over 50% winning record with a ref would be pleased.

I know it's a supporters site, but sometimes a voice of reason is required. Happy to tell you when/if I believe a ref gets a decision wrong (including my own).
