This Good Friday, is all about the kids

    Apr 09, 2014

RaboDirect Rebels dare to tread where others won't, and it's all for the kids

The RaboDirect Rebels will use the occasion of their Round Ten Good Friday clash against the Western Force at AAMI Park to raise much needed funds for The Royal Children's Hospital through its annual Good Friday Appeal (GFA)

The Rebels will produce a branded teddy bear available for purchase both in the weeks leading into the match (via the Rebels website) and also at the ground on the evening.

Patrons will be encouraged to either purchase a teddy bear ($10) or the teddy and a ticket promotion (teddy and adult GA ticket for $20).

Teddys can be either kept or donated back to the GFA during the Turf the Teddy Donation at the end of the match. The teddys will be wrapped in accordance with regulations to ensure they can then be donated to sick children.

In conjunction with BONDS underwear, the Rebels are aiming to raise $50,000, with a guaranteed $25,000 donation from BONDS. BONDS will also provide a number of prizes and special offers for members and fans in attendance to celebrate this event.

In a unique opportunity which allows supporters to meet players from both sides, Force and Rebels stars will walk the perimeter of the fence post-match. Players will be collecting the bears from those patrons choosing to participate in the 'Turf a Teddy' donation.

Rebels CEO Rob Clarke stressed the importance of embracing the match, but more importantly the proud traditions of the City of Melbourne.

"Melbourne is the Good Friday Appeal," Clarke said. "It is important we embrace what is special to Melbourne and all Victorians, and we have been working hard behind the scenes to ensure we can provide a healthy contribution to the Good Friday Appeal.

"The players who participate in the match at AAMI Park that evening will be visiting children in hospital earlier that day. The players came up with the concept knowing full well how important it is for the Victorian community, but more importantly the kids.

"I know many of our players have children and we encourage them to bring them into the dressing rooms and share in their dad's success; visiting the Royals Children's hospital on game day will no doubt inspire our players to play for them, their families and Melbourne."

With the AFL continuing to rule out Good Friday fixturing, the Rebels/Force clash represents the only game of professional sport on Good Friday in the world's sporting capital. With the Good Friday Appeal an institution in Melbourne, the Rebels are delighted to team with the charity to raise awareness and much-needed funds through the 'Turf a Teddy' donation initiative.

As a family-oriented Club, we want to celebrate with as many kids in attendance as possible as we renew rivalries with a Force team we lead 5-2 in head to head match-ups. The team will also be seeking #REBdemption, following an emphatic defeat at the hands of the Force at nib Stadium in Perth in Round Four of this year's Asteron Life Super Rugby competition.

Gourmet chocolatier Ernest Hillier's have jumped on board in their centenary year, and will provide chocolate for all attendees as we celebrate the beginning of the Easter holidays.

Stay tuned to the Club website and our social media channels over the next fortnight as we continue to bring you further information and ways in which to help raise funds for the Good Friday Appeal through our match against the Western Force.

The Rebels will also be promoting the match through the hashtag #LittleRebel on social media. With both teams dedicating the match to the kids and their children, the Club will run the #LittleRebel campaign by tweeting and posting pictures on their social media platforms.

Photos sent in with #LittleRebel may well end up being featured on the Club website, with the #LittleRebel photo judged as the best giving the winning child the chance meet their favourite Rebel with their parents in the dressing rooms after the match.

A message from our Rebel friends that helped us out with our ticket order for next week. A great initiative by the Rebels

I read that as "In a unique opportunity which allows supporters to pelt Force players with teddy bears, at close range, as they walk the perimeter of the fence post-match."
