    Championship A Grade

    Fixtures for the first round of Championship;

    Cottesloe v Nedlands (12.20)
    Palmyra v Swan Suburbs (12.20)
    UWA v Southern Lions (12.20)
    Kalamunda v Kwinana (14.00)
    Wanneroo v Arks (12.20)
    Joondalup v Associates (13.20)
    Curtin Uni v Rockingham (15.30)
    Bunbury v Perth Bayswater (14.00)
    Mandurah v Wests Scarborough (14.50)

some interesting kick off times (brackets), any thoughts on how championship teams will front up to the premier team 3rds?

You'd expect that Cott & Neddies (interesting 1st round) would be very strong, especially against the champ teams, but that Curtin and Mandurah in particular would be very keen to gauge themselves against such teams. Kala and Soaks have traditionally been fairly strong in this grade.

Unless there's been some HUGE improvement, you'd expect Sth Lions and Swan Suburbs to struggle. Again.

Bunbury should win their fair share of home games, depending upon the "cba" factor of their oppo.

    Kwinana? Whom knows about them?

Played Kwinana last year in 5th grade and I was under the impression that it was their only Senior side last year.

Lack of depth for the junior clubs will hurt them later in the season, don't expect them to match the likes of Neddies.

Im looking forward to the challenge of the prem teams this year. Rocky will be very tough this year (as they were last year, probably our most physical and well drilled opponents)

Will there be a difference in prem teams home and away squads, when their 3rds will be separated from their prems and reserves? this could have a big effect on the ladder if so.

I don't think Curtin will have any issues with depth this year, Curtin second grade at a good level and the seconds have heaps of third graders to help out.

Yeah I think so. And they weren't particularly strong. I can't seem them lasting too long.

Last season Swan Suburbs and Kwinana would forfeit away games on a regular basis. It is hard for a club that is counting on their income on a home game , show the sponsors where their money is going and also to budget / cater for them. If you can field a team at home - why not away? It is understandable that player nos may be stretched covering 2 or 3 venues, when travelling to 1 though this isn't an issue.
These teams could be finals contenders based on home wins when other teams who turn up home and away miss out.
Rugby WA have kpi's to meet so that they can tell the A R U what a great job they are doing growing rugby.

Mighty Arks had a great day. Bring it on ! Look forward to hosting those clubs from the western suburbs that we haven't seen for years! Looks like Wests are the new Rocky - hope we get to see them out here.
As per the signs at the western suburb beaches " don't leave valuables in your car"
