    More from the Badger

    Ashley-Cooper tipped for Wallaby job

Western Force winger Nick Cummins says Adam Ashley-Cooper should lead the Wallabies after Ben Mowen's shock decision to leave Australian rugby at the end of the season.
Cummins, who has returned to training after the Wallabies' tour of Europe, said the versatile 91-Test back was respected by fellow internationals.

Never really thought of AAC as Captain material, but the Badger makes a good case

I had. He's consistently good on field and never seems to blow his cool. Never in trouble off it. A quiet achiever who's probably one of the first picked every time.

Problem I see is that AAC is not the first pick in any one position, although would definitely be one that would be first picked for the squad. He is a great player but if you cant lock up a position as first pick year in year out then are you captain material?

I think that might be to do with his versatility. He might not have one jersey nailed down, but if he's fit I'd include him in the team sheet anywhere from 11-14 with the actual position dependent on form and injuries.

My bigger issue with AAC as captain is that I prefer the captain to be a forward. Maybe thats because I was a forward, but with I'd say the list of successful captains as backs (eg, Mortlock, BO'D, etc) is much shorter than the list of successful captains as forwards.

Except Pocock, who seems to spend more than half his time injured, it's hard to think of someone more deserving of the captaincy, though.

It's more difficult to have a word to the ref when you're stuck out on the wing.

Yeah, they just accuse you of shouting at them.

Which, of course, you are doing, but not to be belligerent, just so he hears you from all that way away.
