Michael Schmacher suffers serious Head Injury Skiing

SEVEN-TIME Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher has been taken to hospital after suffering an injury while skiing, according to French media reports.

There were conflicting reports as to the severity of the injury suffered by the 44-year-old German.

Europe 1 described it as a "serious head injury", while other reports said Schumacher remained conscious and his condition was not a concern.

The accident happened in the French Alps resort of Meribel.

"I do not know the severity of the injury," the ski station's director told RMC radio.

"The police are currently conducting their investigation into the origins of the fall."

"We do not know yet if it happened on a piste or off-piste."

Anybody who skis with more than half a skinful is asking for a head injury

Sounds like he's in a bad way - in a coma after suffering a brain haemorrhage. Very sad indeed. I hope he pulls through.

I feel for his 14 yo son too who was skiing with him at the time of the accident - must have been very distressing indeed for the poor lad.

Seems like the only reason he's still alive is because he had a Helmet on.

Hope he can pull through. Wouldn't wish watching a family member go like that on anyone

Skiing can be a dangerous sport--especially if there are rocks & trees on the runs
Although I was only an intermediate level skier I always tackled the black runs, often being virtually out of control all the way down.Fortunately I always kept by bindings loose, enabling the skis to easily come off during my numerous head plants and crashes
reckon I had far more injuries from skiing than from rugby
    hope he pulls through allright

From reports I've read it was off-piste and initially only a bump to the head. Then it sounds like concussion and brain swelling required helicopter evac off the slope and he's in a coma.

Terrible news for his family, but if he's anything like any racing driver I've ever read about he'll take loads of risks to get some adrenaline flowing once retired
