That article says Emerging Springboks, does that make him a development player?

no the Emerging Sprinkboks are the same as Australia A so he is tied to SA now so he will fill the second Marquee spot we have been given.

The Emirates Western Force has injected additional size and experience into its forward pack from next season with the signing of Bulls lock Wilhelm Steenkamp.

I guess this means GOODBYE Sam Wykes.

Wykes is signed till 2015 Lynn's contract runs out at the end of this year and Batty is signed till end of 2014 so more likely Lynn is gone or they might get rid of Batty I think they tried or had planed to last year if i remember correctly.

Yeah, I'm not sure what the problem is with Phoenix, he looks a lot better than Wykes when he plays.

It's interesting that nobody is saying anything about Wreck-it-Rory. He's a lock too!

I would think that Phoenix and Rory would BOTH be good to keep as the 'eye to the future' option with a new monster lock and those two, along with Benny Mac to cover for desperate emergencies and Lynn in the mix too I can't see Wykes staying here much longer.

Probably more like 200cm. 220cm would be 7foot3 ish in the old scale...that would make him (potentially?) the tallest rugby player on the planet which may be more newsworthy

Assuming Brown is going, I think the Force will shift MMM to 6 to fill in the backrow spot we have there. That leaves us with 4 lock spots. Steenkamp, Wykes and Battye. Potentially plus one and an EPS. I don't know if Rory Walton has done enough to earn a full contract. I'd keep him in the EPS if he'll stay. Or promote Rory and bring in a 20 odd year old development option for the EPS.

220mm... someone dropped him out of a plane without a parachute.

But honestly, it is looking good for us next year.

Re Walton: I haven't seen all The game this year, but has he been given the opportunity to show enough to stay or not?

He's certainly had some decent minutes. I guess it depends how much time Foley will take to assess m, some coaches will do that sort of stuff in ten minutes, others will be more methodical.

He started against the Waratahs. He has come off the bench a handful of times before that. He hasn't said full contract to me, and that's being compared to Lynn and Wykes, so the jury is out on that one.

I hope not. Our backrow stocks are excellent even without Browndog. We've still got Mccalman, Alcock, Cottrell, Hodgson and McCaffrey.

On the other hand, besides MMM and hopefully now Steenkamp, our other locks are all pretty average. Much better off keeping MMM at lock, but still have the flexibility of moving him to the backrow if needed due to injuries

It is hard to find the right combination. I'd like to see Wykes return to his form of 2012. If that happened, I'd go with:

    4. Sam Wykes
    5. Willhelm Steenkamp
    6. Hugh McMeniman
    7. Chris Alcock
    8. Ben McCalman

Probably with Hodgson and Cottrell on the bench as McMeniman and McCalman can both play lock. Failing that I would be pretty keen to see McCaffrey (if he stays) play at 6 or 8.
