A very creditable performance from Rocky at home where they usually play their best rugby.

Uni were definitely younger on average as you'd expect and very fit and they have heaps of players it would seem. They have a good crop of under 20's that can back up into the seniors.

Rocky relied on some good ball runners, good tackling and lotsa guts. Rocky won the scrum contest but created gaps in the 3rd and 4th phases that Uni exploited well.

Away to Soaks next week so another mountain to climb.

    Kala v Baysie

Kala went into the match missing 4 players from the side that beat Rocky with Razor and Gray notable absentees. It showed in 2nds with Baysie able to turn around the trial result for a 31 - 22 win in 2nds. In prems Kala took little time to adjust with Natu shifting from lock to 6 and continuing on his MOM display of the previous week with another awesome display in the tight stuff. In the backs we had a switch at 10 with Steve going back down to lead the U/20s to 38 - 20 something win. Tanai Puke stepped in and did a fine job leading Kala around the field picking up MOM for his troubles. Accuracy and execution were still issues for Kala as a few dropped balls in the centres stopped some good build-up work and momentum dead at least 4 or 5 times. Lineout had an off day too conceding 5 turnovers. Kala also at times were trying to be too fancy when they sensed they had Baysies measure with greedyness and 50/50 passes bombing 3 more tries. Baysie fielded a young rebuilding side in prems.

Baysie fielded a young rebuilding side in prems who will develop into a very capable side in a couple of years and with great numbers in the U/18s and U/20s plus some shrewd recruiting could be a top 4 threat sooner rather than later. Their best period came straight after halftime when good sustained pressure yielded them 8 straight points. A bit more experience and composure and they will be a tricky opponent.

Great work Lacey, always good to get a starting spot in the final trial. All the best to him and the other W.A lads over there!!!!

That's a lot of fire power not currently running round for Wests, handy for Gracey to have up his sleeve.

Went up to watch Cott. They were very very good and will be putting some big scores all year on that showing. Wanneroo boys told me they were severely down on numbers. They lost their scrumhalf, 10, prop and hooker in pre-season. Another player broke a should last Thursday night and four normal starting forwards were also out and could be out for a while.
They have not gone out with the money this year and are bringing the 18s and 20s through which can only be good for local rugby in the long term but it looks like being a long year.
Oh yes Will Tupou has gone to Paly they said.
On the plus looks like they have got some new extensions going on at their clubrooms

Has anyone told the Wanneroo coach that this is his last year and that Gibbo is taking over next year?

Or is it being kept as a surprise?

I don't think anyone would be surprised after Saturday's performance.
